hi - apologies if this has been asked before as I am sure it has, not easy to find specific topics on here.

i have friends who are telling me to bring my partner to the states on a tourist visa, marry him, then do an adjustment of status for his tourist visa and/or apply for spouse visa, or something along those lines. my friends partner came over on a tourist visa from macedonia, they got married, they sent in some type of form to immigration (adjustment of status or they applied for the spouse visa - not sure) few months later he got his green card.

how is this possible? does anyone know? many thanks and good luck everyone!

Michele you have the intent to get married with him, and then bring him to the USA to get married with a visitor visa is fraud.

Many people decided when they were visiting each other to get married in the "spur of the moment" and Immigration accepts that, but those people didn't enter here with the intent to get married they just decided in the last minute, it's not your case. You clear stated you want to get married then follow the Law. Apply for a CR1 visa or fiance visa. Good luck

I agree with all of the above. Your friends are suggesting something that is illegal and considered fraud.

Its all boils down to intention, you clearly stated yours. Do the process the right way, you will thank yourself in the end and be at ease that you did the right thing. Its a long complicated process but we are all in teh same boat.

As mentioned my other VJers, if someone enters the US as a toursist, with the intention to visit, and then decides to marry that is another scenario. For example I had a girlfriend who met her Argentine husband while he was in the US as tourist, they fell in love, married filed and adjusted status. But he did not enter with that intention, they had not even met yet.

Its all about intention. Good luck!!
