I would think admitting guilt would remove the pressumed innocence...

i would think following the story and knowing what you are talking about would count even more. the person who "blew the whistle" was not one of those who took part in it. ;)

Again I state:

Four soldiers from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division will be court-martialed for their alleged involvement in the rape of an Iraqi girl and the murder of her family, and two will face the death penalty, the military ordered Wednesday.

Is far more appropriate then:

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Four soldiers from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division will be court-martialed for the ALLEGED rape of an Iraqi girl and the murder of her family, and two will face the death penalty, the military ordered Wednesday.

Notice how the word alleged is applied to the rape of an Iraqi girl and the murder of her family...in the second one, which implies the crimes are alleged not the soldiers involvement.

al·leged-Represented as existing or as being as described but not so proved; supposed.

Usage Note: An alleged burglar is someone who has been accused of being a burglar but against whom no charges have been proved. An alleged incident is an event that is said to have taken place but has not yet been verified. In their zeal to protect the rights of the accused, newspapers and law enforcement officials sometimes misuse alleged. Someone arrested for murder may be only an alleged murderer, for example, but is a real, not an alleged, suspect in that his or her status as a suspect is not in doubt. Similarly, if the money from a safe is known to have been stolen and not merely mislaid, then we may safely speak of a theft without having to qualify our description with alleged.

source of definition and usage note emphasis added

Through the usage note we can see they are alleged rapist/murderers, however that is not the case with the quote offered by Carol&Marc originally which states and I quote again for those with short term memory loss...

Four soldiers from the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division will be court-martialed for the ALLEGED rape of an Iraqi girl and the murder of her family.

Again, the rape/murder is NOT alleged as its occurance has been verified, their involvement is alleged.

I do not disagree that they deserve due process, I disagree with the way the statement was made to claim that they do deserve due process.

No, he wasn't...he is a good kid, I have known him (and his father) since 2003, before he entered the military.

He heard about the involvement of others in his group and asked around, it would seem the guys involved were "bragging" about doing the crime and covering it up amoungst their peers.

in essence admitting to it...

Could you please show me where the word guilty is in the story? I cant seem to find it!

Spc. James P. Barker and Pfc. Bryan L. Howard are also ACCUSED in the rape and murders but will not face the death penalty, the military said in a statement.

Former Pvt. Steven Green, who was discharged for a personality disorder and arrested in North Carolina, WILL BE in federal court in Kentucky. Green has pleaded NOT GUILTY to one count of rape and four counts of murder

In the other case, Pfc. Corey R. Clagett, Spc. William B. Hunsaker, Staff Sgt. Raymond L. Girouard and Spc. Juston R. Graber are ACCUSED of murdering three Iraqi men taken from a house May 9 on a marshy island outside Samarra, about 60 miles north of Baghdad.

In the rape and murder case, military authorities said they would SEEK the death penalty against Sgt. Paul E. Cortez and Pfc. Jesse V. Spielman.
