Ok, I got mine no problem, but my husband of 25 years, who I have been with for 28 years and who has been the stepfather of my daughter since she was 14 (she is now 40)has had to file a waiver for somthing that happened over 28 years ago!!!!!!

The way I was told at the interview, " I am pleased to say that we can grant you your visa today but Alan will have to file a waiver!!! did they expect me to be happy !!!!!! It was over 28 years ago that he did something stupid, never hurt anyone. Anyway, it is done and the waiver is filed, and to say tonight that I am just a little bit drunk is an understatement ;) after 13 months waiting, they can tell me that I am good to go and yet my husband is not, what did they expect me to do, smile and say thank you??? wihout my husband this visa of mine means absolutely nothing!!!! I cannot go to the states without him, it would be like half of me being left behind.

So now we wait,

I am sorry for ranting, I love my daughter and my grandkids but moving to the states is out of the question until the love of my life and with whom I have spent the last 28 years of my life is approved. He is a good person who never hurt anyone but we are now at the mercy of the dhs in London. To say my heart is broken is an understatement

Very sorry to hear this. It seems from experiencing the visa process that the American system is very bureaucratic and every piece of paper must be just so. Keep faith these things have a habit of working out just fine in the end, especially when the event was so long ago.

Val I am sorry to hear that they are making you file the wiaver at this time. I am glad you have started the process and hope that they can get it finalized and visa issued in a short time. Remember Liam was able to get his processed fairly quickly. Take care of yourselves and know that we are here for you.

Hugs,

Mary

Thanks to one and all, I know that if I need picking up when I am down because of this, I can come on here and you will all be there for me.

Last night I was totally devastated even though I knew it could happen but was really praying that as Alan's offences were so long ago, the embassy would bear that in mind. I have read and reread all I could about waivers and when they are to be applied and it would appear that they are going by the letter here. Even though they were so damned long ago.

Anyway what is done is done, I think Alan is more gutted for me than for him. We had such plans and the house is sold, although that does not bother us, if it has all been signed over before we get the approval (here we go again, god willing ;) then we are going to put a load of stuff in storage and rent from a friend, so no problems there. Plan B is if they deny him we buy an old property and do it up !!! Sorted.!!!

I found some parts of the interview and what was said to us, strange to say the least but I will not go into all that, suffice to say that the CO that interviewed us, who was only a young man, but very nice, and the gentleman who first saw us, who was older said that they would both highly recommend that the waiver be approved in light of how long ago the offence was, 1971, when Alan was 17. It is unfortunate that Alan had a couple of other stupid things from when he was 19 and 24 so they are saying mutiple convictions, even though one of them was only a stupid drunken fight and the other occured during his divorce and was so petty it was unbelievable.

So now I will move over to the waiver thread and wait it out, so if you will all keep popping in to keep me company from time to time, that will be just great. I am going nowhere without my hubby, so if they don't want him, they don't get me, simple
