The operative word being 'should'. As it stands, US Citizens, are not required by law to carry a photo ID, unless they are crossing a border checkpoint.

However, I disagree at the notion of 'id of some sort'. If we are to go the Soviet route, then every American should carry a passport which is the only picture ID that can effectively and unquestionably provide evidence of citizenship. DLs should not be accepted as anything other than a method to put a name and a picture together. They do not prove nor are they evidence of legal status or citizenship.

Having said that, Naturalization and Citizenship is afforded by the Constitution to the Federal Government.

I don't remember the constitution saying you must have to pay to vote either. If they want people to have an ID to vote, it should be free of charge.

That's their problem? That's your answer? Really?

So if someone lost all their posessions in Katrina, it is their problem and they shouldn't be allowed to vote? If their house burnt down and they lost everything, it is their problem and they shouldn't be allowed to vote? Just because you live in a perfect world where everything is wonderful and everyone else is "careless", doesn't mean this is a true reflection of reality.

The post was directed at me. It is very clear who you meant. Now that you're my boss, how about upping my salary?

I believe it's quite clear that my post was aimed at someone who is careless, meaning they have either lost or misplaced their paperwork and identification.

But seeing you brought it up, I believe anyone in such a situation would have a lot more to worry about than voting. But once they've got themselves situated in a FEMA trailer and are living off the gov't teet, they can go and get the proper id and then they can vote, until then, no they don't get to vote, sorry.

BTW, how many of those deadbeats are still living in those FEMA trailers?

You have yet to supply me with the proper work documentation to be my employee, until then. no soup for you!

We can only presume that the State of Texas will be issuing free IDs to all those who wish to get one. Otherwise, this new law is nothing but a new tax.

Don't you just love Rick Perry?

So you're in favour of re-introducing tests to vote? Awesome! America under Teddy B is going to be super-cool.

(PS -- what if you yourself flunk?)

Edit: clarity

Sure, why not have some type of basic comprehension tests for people to be eligible to vote. I'm not in favor of idiots and morons chosing our leaders, are you?

Because none of those are an explicit right of the constitution, other than purchasing a firearm. That is done for safety measures. Poor argument, as usual.

So anything that is not explicitly spelled out in the constitution, is not a right. Is that really the best you could come up with. Gezzh. Please point out where it says in the Constitution you can not be denied the right to vote for lack of an ID.

In 2008, I cast a vote for President. I cast a vote for US Senator. I cast a vote for the US Congressman. I cast a vote each for many state and local races. And I cast a vote each on many ballot initiatives. All in all there were 20 or seperate votes on just as many separate races and issues. Now, if 132MM people voted casting a vote each on 20 different items, then there were literally billions of votes cast. And all of a sudden, winning the mega millions does become more likely than dealing with voter fraud. It's virtually non-existent and the voter ID laws do not exactly address the few and far between cases that are out there.

Two problems with your rather elementary argument. The first and foremost is that , there are lot's and lots of cases of voter fraud prosecuted every year. The second is that the act of fraud is 1 person voting, who is not eligible not how many iterms are on the ballot. That is like saying the Mega Millions odds 1 in 74, because that is the odds for winning 1 dollar. Weak weak weak and you don't understand math.

I will not bite on your racist comments. You are disgusting.

Considering it is Rick Perry, chances are he is going to demand that people have birth certificates with pictures!!!

Maybe he secretly wants to make the TX government bigger by increasing the demand for birth certificates. What a commie!

Actually that is a correct statement.

Both of you are correct in what you are saying, because you are speaking of statistics. You are speaking of different outcomes.

A $1 return is a winning ticket, so it is correct that the odds be 1 in 74 of you winning 'anything'. However if you are speaking of winning the jackpot those odds are far smaller.

Ofcourse I am. Most people that would let the inmates run the assylum rather than instill self responsibility do usually find me repulsive in one way or another
