Id was required to attend Michelle Obama's book signing.

I believe you are correct.

There is nothing wrong in asking for ID it is just providing proof to the person at polling booth who you are claiming to be is you.

In recent years the number of illegal immigrants has gone up, ppl have voted fraudulently and as the time changes the changes in the system are required.

The same person who is claiming that its so difficult to get an Id would get an ID in blink of an eye, if they won a mega million lottery.

At that point they would not complain about how difficult it is to obtain an Id.

I don't have a problem with the idea of requiring a photo ID in order to vote. I am just saying that there are a lot of elderly people who may need assistance in getting one. Obtaining documents from 75 years ago or more is not always a piece of cake (as happened with my great-grandmother.) There are also issues of travel - Grandma had to make several trips hundreds of miles away, to appear in person, and wait hours and hours while the clerk searched and searched through ancient records. This is not so simple for a 100-year-old (she's 101 now because she just had a birthday - heh she keeps doing that !)

Anyways, these are things that need to be considered when laws get changed, and there should be some kind of organized system to help facilitate it - especially for our senior citizens.

BTW, she's a staunch Republican in a potentially pivotal swing state (Ohio.)

99% of people don't have an ID. Lots of people don't own a car or have a bank account. I know that's hard to grasp in your world of everything being perfect.

In this state you need a certified copy of a birth certificate to get an ID. To get a birth certificate you must send a copy of your ID.

Correction it is not the Id of the person who is getting the BC, but it is the Id of the person who is sendin the forms requesting the BC.

So in normal case it would be copy of parent's Id when they are ordering the BC for kid.

In your case yes... it makes sense, but what Holder is fighting for is not for the cases like yours.

Yours is one of case... Eric holder is fighting where fradulent votes can continue to happen and as most of us know most fraudlent voter lean toward the democratic party and he is just trying to make sure his party is benefited out of it.

Are they going to issue Texas Voting ID cards? If they are going to use State DLs as proof of ID the new law will not change or prevent fraud. It must be an election year...

It definitely does stop fraud…. Someone cannot just walk in the polling station and say I m John Smith.

With new law John Smith will have to show a picture Id to prove that he is John Smith.

Unless of course, he votes via absentee ballot right?

Follow your own advice: Perhaps if you spent less time being opinionated and more time addressing the facts, you might learn something. And here are the facts; you can get the birth cert in Mississippi without a picture ID. SS card and a utility bill, being the easiest two or in the poor's case SS card and Snap/EBT card. :bonk:

■ Photo Driver’s License ■ Photo State Issued ID ■ Employment ID

■ School, College or University ID ■ US Military ID ■ Tribal ID

■ Alien Registration/Permanent Resident Card ■ Temporary Resident Card ■ US Passport

OR two forms of identification from the following list:

■ Social Security Card ■ Utility Bill (showing address) ■ Medicaid Card

■ Snap/EBT card (showing address) ■ Work Identification ■ Veteran Universal Access ID Card

Now that the waters have been cleared :ot2:

Someone has been inconspicuously absent from this thread since you posted this kyt.

It most certainly does not because anyone can get a DL. However, it will be very interesting to see what will happen when John Smith presents his birth certificate with no picture.

What if John Smith mails his ballot? Where, how and to whom will he show ID?
