As the bible says "There are non so blind as those who will not see"

But I thought you were a non-believer?

Which leads me to another question. There is about as much scientific proof that man made climate change exists as there is that God exists, why do you laugh at the thought of a God being real, yet swallow up man made climate change like it's your last meal?

I am a committed evangelizing atheist but I was brought up a Primitive Methodist and I know my bible

They made me foreswear women and hard liquor when I was 10 (the pledge)

In fact my knowledge of jesus' teaching, and my subsequent revulsion at how the typical christian (especially in the US) actually acts, made me into an atheist. Atheism is the only credible position for a thinking and moral person in the USA

I am actually a great fan of christianity - and I would be the world's most committed christian if they stopped insisting on the existence of god

There is NO scientific evidence that god exists

There is plenty of scientific evidence that the greenhouse effect exists

Your twisting of science to suit your religion is an example of what I am talking about. If your church told you the scientists are right (as in the case of a round earth when they changed their position), you would be the first to admit climate change

Your church used to burn people who said the earth went round the sun

That was the meaning. I don't do technicalities.

But it's certainly the case that the churches reverse course 180 degrees sometimes, and the flock immediately reverses so hard they leave tire tracks on the road

It's also the case that the churches used to torture and burn those who didn't agree with their stance on a number of now accepted scientific issues

If the churches admitted climate change now, 90% of US posters on here would change their stance within 24 hours (after consulting their own consciences)

My comment was to the effect that science really doesn't matter in the minds of the US public - all issues are driven by religion or racism or guns or all three, and the pastors in their shiny suites, and rolls royces and and private jets are the ones who will decide what the flock believes.

I am sure the 'clean coal' lobby will help them to decide their message

Just an fyi for you Alan, I am an atheist just like you, well definitely not just like you, but an atheist none the less.

There's a difference between fact and theory. Even in the case of scientific fact, those facts can sometimes be broken as well.

There are no 'facts' surrounding climate change. Only theories. Theories that are based on a mere 115-130 years of data. Anything prior to that is a 'guess' in which we are trying to learn and know about prior climate changes, however we honestly don't have a clue. We can use tree rings, soil samples, etc. all day long, but at the end of the day there is nothing concrete or proven in our tests. Without going back in time and planting thermometers, barometers, etc. everywhere, there's no way we'll ever know.

The problem with human beings is that many need an explanation for everything. Some have 'faith' others need something more visual like science provides. Science is nothing more than a religion that tries to prove itself. Sure, we have learned how to break things down and make items, but there's no consistency necessarily in that in the universe. Science blurs itself on the same lines that religion does. The universe itself. You can't believe in God and believe in other lifeforms/other living planets at the same time. With science you can believe in other living beings/planets, but you cannot have scientific 'facts' outside of our own global sphere. Everyone needs something to believe in though, and if you don't believe in anything you're looked at as an outcast for daring to be different.

The truth is climate change happens. The question is, are we having a real effect on it. We won't know that in our lifetime more than likely. We'll try to control people under that reasoning, because as a species that's what we like to do. We like to enslave others to our own beliefs and our own way of life. Be you a believer in God or in science. We're all the same at the end of the day.

*gasp* warmest in some areas within 117 years. The planet is only 200 years old! Holy **! We're doooooooomed!...

That's exactly right. Tiny temperature fluctuations are irrelevant if you consider the transformations

and upheavals that our planet has undergone during its 4.5+ billion year history.

Just an fyi for you Alan, I am an atheist just like you, well definitely not just like you, but an atheist none the less.

Make my day and tell me I converted you - it would be my first

Actually I don't believe any atheist ever converted anyone, but an atheist who stands up and says how he thinks, gives courage to those who already think like that but are scared of the religious people

If I had a job in the USA, I would be in the closet with the rest of them

When I was a Finance Director in the UK, my chief accountant was very attractive lady who I subsequently married. We went out for dinner with my boss from Atlanta while we were still secret. She told my boss her dad was a communist (he was) and she sympathized with him

The next day, my boss had returned to Atlanta. He called me and said "I hope she isn't still working for this company"

I proposed to her and told her it was against the rules for the FD to be married to the chief accountant and she had to leave.

Had she said she was an atheist, the story would have been the same - I am sure of that

If it puts a pop in your knickers, then go ahead and take the credit.

Actaually I came to the conclusion that there is no such thing as God in my early 20's, I believe being raised a Roman Catholic had a lot to do with my decision. Was even an altar boy as a child, never molested by a priest though. I am a firm believer in logic and fact, if something simply doesn't make sense and there are no facts to back it up, chances are there is no way you'll get me on board.

You are just angry that the priest didn't fancy you. You probably became much more attractive as you grew older so put down that anger and buy a jar of soil from the holy land

I know a postman who has bought 6 jars at 75 GBP a jar ! ($800)

He is 46 and lives alone in a scruffy apartment and smokes dope every night and cant get a girlfriend and doesn't believe in global warming

He has never voted

Over 99% of warming deniers live in South Carolina and fit the same profile
