Hi everyone, we have a quick query in relation to bringing items into the US. I'll be bringing mainly clothes, a few books (not professional), some jewellery (including the wedding rings), some confectionery, a bottle of whiskey, a laptop and an Xbox. The only items under 12 months old would be the jewellery, bottle of whiskey and confectionery.

We're just a little confused as to what these items should be marked as and what if any we may be liable to pay duty on. Thanks for any help :)

I brought my PC from Belgium, a bunch of CDs, some books and other misc things and the only thing that cost me was getting it on the plane. It was a few kg more than they liked so they charged 100€ for us to check it. Then it ended up they kept it in Amsterdam til the following day.

Never had to pay any taxes or anything on any of it.

In my case, I am from the Philippines, I might send my clothes/shoes/girl things via postal and have the xbox and other important gadgets via DHL/FEDex, so when I go I will carry just enough clothes good for the trip and my laptop and Ipad.

Because I'm taking so little I'm just taking two suitcases with me, the airline charges $70 for an additional bag.

I'm afraid you won't be able to bring the whiskey. I'll PM you with a good address to ship it to (mine!)

Nice try ;)

Definitely less stress to go that way. :P In hindsight I wish we had done that, but ah well. Good luck to you btw! :)
