My husband and I went to Delhi in April to submit our I130. Everything went fine and they told us we would probably get something from Mumbai in a month in a half. So we waited. After 2 months I called VFS. They told us it can take 4-12 weeks so we needed to wait longer. Now we are at 13 weeks. I called again to VFS and the lady told me to send another email (I had sent one previously and not gotten any reply except that they are fwd to embassy around 10 weeks)and mark it URGENT in the title. I did this and again it's been 3 business days and no reply. I am going crazy.

Now I know lots of people out there will be thinking what is the rush but I'm pregnant and planning to go back the US for delivery. I also have a 16 month old and the thought of having to travel alone back to the states very pregnant with my toddler is not one I relish. I made the trip alone when she was 6 months and then returned a few months later and it wasn't a lot of fun even then. I've been in India 6 1/2 years and I am SOOO ready to be home :(.

Hi

We just filed our I130 in Delhi too this Monday. We too good a positive feedback, well they keep a neutral face and dont reveal much. Your case has kinda made us nervous too. 13 weeks is way too long. From what you are saying your case has been forwarded to Mumbai long back right? Maybe you should keep visiting Mumbai consulate every now and then. I know it must be tuff with you being pregnant and all.

Hope all sorts out for you.

We are awaiting to hear back on our petition. Be positive! :)

  • 3 weeks later...

Well it's 5 hours to Mumbai consulate so that wasn't really an option. Basically it took us 16 weeks to get our case number and that was only after I beat down all the doors I could think of. I spent who knows how many rupees calling the one number I had in Delhi as well as talking to VFS and I sent SOOOO many emails to VFS. I finally contacted ACS (American Citizen Services) by email. The next day at 9:15am I suddenly got an email from VFS with the case number. At around noon a lady from ACS called to check with us. I am still really upset because they actually sent out the packet to us on the 30th of April which of course we never received and despite all my attempts through VFS, they refused to even check in to the situation until after 12 weeks had passed. When this is all said and done with I am going to write a long letter to the Department of State. Probably won't do any good but I do intend to tell them that I am quite disappointed that the US Consulate Mumbai when in league with the VFS has gone "native" in every way. I never expected such a horrible experience when working with my own government. This is the type of thing I expect from the Indian government. Now for the Police clearance stuff :(...
