Hi!

October 3- AOS interview

October 10- received EAD (card)

October 10- received Welcome Notice (AOS)

October 18- received Greencard

I have a question. My husband and I went to SSA October 16th and applied for a SSN. I showed them my EAD and the representative told me they cannot issue me a SSN because she cannot see my card number in their system. She said that it'll be necessary for them to verify my EAD with USCIS. They need to make sure the EAD I showed them is valid. And, it'll take 1 month for them to get a response from USCIS.

So, I have now my greencard... Will it be a good idea if I go back to SSA and show them my greencard as proof I am now a legal permanent resident? And for them to issue me a SSN, soon?

I am just very excited to have my SSN so I can apply for a job, soon. I really need a job!

Thanks! Godbless to all!

:D

If you go back and show them your I-551 card and it verifies through SAVE then they can clear the application to assign your SSN. If it doesn't and they need to send the G-845 to verify it you are back to square one, but since you only applied 2 days ago you will have only lost 2 days if the I-551 card doesn't verify through SAVE.

Plus with the I-551 you get an unrestricted SSN card, so if it was me I would do it.
