Filed: K-1 Visa Country: France

Hello,

I am French, currently living in France, and I am going through the process of getting a K1 visa. The petition has just been approved, and I'm now waiting on packet 3.

I read that you should show a police certificate from every country where you have lived for more than 6 months since age 16 at the visa interview. I lived in the US for 8 months under a J-1 visa. Then, do I need to get a police certificate from the US?

I saw on the FBI website that it could take up to 8 weeks to get it...Does anyone had to do that and if yes how long did it take?

I would really appreciate your responses, thank you!

For immigrant visa processing, police certificates are deemed unnecessary for any period of residence in the US:

Note: Present and former residents of the United States need NOT obtain any U.S. police certificates

Having done the FBI checks several times in the past few years, I can definitely say it's an aggravating wait, and fortunately not something you have to worry about for the US immigration process, as they do their own checks when you do biometrics and everything else.

Long story short, we have a complicated case. We've been at this for nearly 5 years. You can read our story here. I highly recommend our attorney Laurel Scott, as well as attorneys Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon .

Filed I-130 via CSC in Feb 2008. Petition approved June 2008. Consular interview in Mexico, Oct 2008, visa denied, INA 212a6cii. We allege improper application of the law in this case.

2012, started over in Seoul: I-130 filed DCF on 7/2, I-130 approved 8/8, Medical at Yonsei Severance 11/20, IR1 appointment in November 2012.

CRBA filed 1-3-13 at Seoul for our daughter
