single, or unmarried notarization in the petition?

Hi, Thank you all for the great information. I am positive that I will be reading here every day. After our 5 year relationship, we have made the choice to get married... finally...

I am starting the first part of the K-1 visa application (petition) and everything seems quite clear except for one thing, that is the notarized unmarried status documents that show up on lists here and there, but not on the actual state department website list. The only thing the state department's list talks about is documents to support that a devorce has been finalized, but on other websites lists it says one of these certificates that verify your marital status as single is needed. So is it needed for the beneficiary or not needed?
