How long for AP?

I know this question is asked a lot, but it's really sad that we had this happen to us today =/ The interview was 5 minutes long, the interviewer was extremely nice and told us he is approving us but it just needs some additional administrative processing and we should hear back in 1-2 weeks. I told my wife it's probably because she was a naturalized Canadian citizen and I am a naturalized US citizen (we are both Syrian) and the interviewer overheard and was like no no its not that at all, sometimes it's random checks blah blah blah...yeah I'm really gonna believe that. We are also both Muslim, my wife wears a headscarf, so I guess it's expected it would happen.

Anyways no worries, we'll wait. It's just I've been reading lots of stories on VisaJourney of this process taking months...not sure why he said 1-2 weeks for us? My wife is the Canadian citizen so since she's female, and she's only 18, I feel her case could take less than others but I really don't know at this point.

Oh and he kept her passport. He gave us the option to keep it until they needed it and to send it back to them but he said it's just quicker if he kept it.

Sometimes they just have to have supervisor approval, nothing more. That is probably the case here.

Unfortunately, there is no way to know how long AP takes. Could be couple days or more. You can call DOS for updates.

Mine is in AP for 3 months, for same reason. No sign of moving. But in case of female it could be just that...couple of weeks. Read other forum on VJ that are dedicated for AP cases. you will get an idea on the latest cases from Mid-East.

Has anyone here tried contacting their senator's office?

I gave a phone call to my Senator's office and they got someone to work on the case and I got a call back today from them saying the visa was issued today (I also called DoS to confirm and it was issued!). It might be a coincidence or it could have been the phone call they made, but I highly recommend you contact your senator's office to see if they can make a call for you!

It took from December 2 until February 7 for us to get out of AP. I think they say 1-2 weeks to people just so they don't freak out in the Consulate...you leave quietly and then endure the pain of waiting from a safe distance.

Feb 7, 2012: Passport requested by Consulate
(...Husband needed passport for personal reasons during this time...)
Apr 9, 2012: Passport mailed to Consulate
Apr 25, 2012: Visa issued
May 1, 2012: Visa in hand
May 31, 2012: POE at Montreal's Trudeau Airport
Early July: Physical Green Card received in mail. Yes, it's green!

March 13, 2014: ROC filed (went to VSC)

March 17, 2014: NOA

April 22, 2014: Biometrics appointment

December 9, 2014: Case inquiry initiated

December 11, 2014: Response: "The processing of your case has been delayed. A check of our records establishes that your case is not yet ready for decision, as the required security checks remain pending."

March 14, 2014: Received NOA that approval had been given on March 10; expect new GC within 60 days.
