Police: Teen killed by robbery accomplices

This kinda thing seems to happen every 2 weeks around DFW. Maybe people should think twice before they go robbing people.

Police believe the Fort Worth teen found dead near the back door of an upscale Overton Park home was shot by the guys helping her rob it.

Some mystery has surrounded Claudia Hidic's death. The 17-year-old high school student's body was found Thursday night outside a town home in the 3000 block of Overton Park West.

Originally the homeowner told investigators he returned home to find his back door kicked in. He said he didn't recognize the deceased. But police said he stopped communicating with them after that initial conversation.

According to arrest warrant affidavits, police now believe Hidic sold the man a gun for $100 and put a few laptops up as collateral for another $100. She met him again a few days later and asked to borrow $600 more to bond her boyfriend out of jail but he told her no.

She went to his house on Thursday with 21-year-olds Curtis Fortenberry and Terrance Crumley because she knew he wouldn't be home and that he had drugs and money there.

The teen made up a story about a man named "Ghost" owing them money. Her accomplices ransacked the house while she pretended to be their hostage, according to the affidavits.

Although the homeowner wasn't home at the time, several other people were. And when one of them confronted Fortenberry about the robbery there was an exchange of gunfire.

Fortenberry was shot in both legs and Hidic was shot in the head.

Everyone fled the scene and Hidic's body was left behind.

Police have since questioned several witnesses to the shooting. Also Crumley turned himself in on Saturday and Fortenberry, who was already in custody on unrelated charges, admitted his involvement in the crime.

Fortenberry and Crumley face felony murder charges. Their mug shots will be released once police conduct photo lineups.

Hidic's boyfriend Alen Druzanovic thinks police got it wrong because he can't believe she would rob anyone.

"The family, everyone is taking it hard. Nobody wants to believe any of this is really happening," he said. "She's always been the one to bring everyone's day up. When you have the worst day she'd put a smile on your face. It's real frustrating.

Druzanovic said he knew his girlfriend had gone to the house to sell a laptop and raise money for his bail. He thinks someone stole money from her and she was killed when she threatened to call police.

She had plans to finish school and was interested in pursuing a career in dance, he said.

No one else involved in the incident was arrested or charged.
