We are trying to get everything together for our K1 interview in Bogota, apparently in Colombia when you are born you register at a "notario" and that is where you would go if you needed a copy of your birth certificate.

I don't know if anyone has run into this before, but what can you do if noone knows which notario you were registered at when you were born. This is the case with my fiance. It would not be a problem in a small village with one notario but in Bogota (9 million people) there are hundreds of notarios. Has anyone had to go through this? Is there some central registration?

Oh and her dad can't remember where she was baptized either.

Any help would be appreciated

Try the hospital where she was born. They would be able to give her the information. Also the school where she studied should have a copy of her birth certificate.

Hope this helps.

In this case she needs to go to the Registraduría Nacional (National Registry)in Bogotá where they have all the original documents of all Colombians, the notaries only have the books/folios of the registries. I think she fills out a form to request it so they can give her a copy.

As for her baptism certificate, she can tell the people at the embassy that she doesn't know where she was baptized since this document is not as important as it was in the past. But, if you're requesting it because you want to get married in a Catholic church, then she needs to get it. She can start calling the churches in the neighborhood where she lived as a baby, I would find it hard to believe if her father doesn't have that info either.
