I haven't seen any requests for cover letters in any of the uscis forms..... so I'm wondering why it is recommended here to include them.

Thanks!

I added a fairly comprehensive one just to state my case. I explained my situation, how I had arrived at this point etc. I know they do not ask for it, but I think it is a good idea to include one, show willing etc

A cover letter is not required but I have no doubt it is very helpul. It helps the person opening your package make sure they have not misplaced any documents. Think of your cover letter as a "Receiving" checklist for them.

After spending all the time, energy and money preparing the package, it WILL NOT hurt to have a cover letter.

It is very helpful setting up a context for any reviewing officer. If one were to just open a file and find a smorgasborg of random documents its difficult to grasp what the case is about and if there are any eccentricities in it. Anything you feel is special about your case (like in mine where im using intending immigrant income in the sponsoring), mention it in ur cover letter and mention what is the special evidence. it will make the officer like you. and when officers like you, your work gets done.

It's a good idea to have cover letter esp if you need to explain a certain situation that can't be explain by just presenting the proof.

When I got rfe, I used the cover letter to explain why we have two home, one home named to my husband and other named to me. It can be misinterpret as living separately, so I have to explain it thru cover letter.

It also serves as a good final check-list for yourself when you are putting the cover letter together for the package. I had the I-130 and I-485 instructions printed out when I was writing our cover letter, and kept checking things off from the instructions as I added them to the cover letter and checked that I had all necessary copies and documents as I was organizing them according to the order I listed them in the cover letter. Good way to make sure everything is really there.

Yeah, I concur that it's a good checklist to have. Besides that, I(we) used cover letters to state that the copies were unaltered copies of original documents(for the i-129f) Then we both signed and dated it after having checked everything was in place. We both signed the AOS cover letter as well.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days
