Hi,

I'm in a complicated situation right now and don't know what do to. I received a B1/B2 visa this year in January and flew to the US. I returned a week ago and realized that something awful had happened on my way back. When I left Boston the check-in receptionist totally forgot to remove the I94 paper from my passport. However, it was taken from me at the passport control booth in Reykjavik, Iceland. I didn't ask any questions because I thought it was part of the protocol. I know this may sound retarded but I was completely oblivious to that paper's role before a friend told me. No one ever told me when I arrived in the US what I'm supposed to do with it.

I called both my embassy in Romania and the airport in Reykjavik and I couldn't get anything. Nobody knows why that piece of paper was taken from me in Iceland and nobody knows what do to.

I know this situation is complicated but is there anyone that experienced anything similar?

Thanks,

Alex

It happens all the time. Although the USCIS has a record of your departure, make sure you keep your boarding pass for the flight ex-USA with your passport in case this issue comes up on a next trip or visa interview.

My advice -

The I-94 is removed at the US Departure point and forwarded on to CBP. Since that did not happen with you , it was, instead, caught and retained at some other place.

Your passport was scanned already at the USA POD, so you already have a record of leaving the USA.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I'm glad to hear it's no big deal. My friend went on this Work & Travel program and they told him that he absolutely must return the I94 otherwise he'll never go to the US again. That's why I kind of panicked when I realized what had happened.

Thanks a lot guys

an immigration attorney one told me that if you leave the USA with the I-94 you should send it along with a copy of your boarding pass or return ticket to 1084 South Laurel Road, Customs and Border Patrol, London, Kentucky USA 40744 to be on the safe side.

It lost mine a couple of times (it was not stapled into the passport by them) so it did not go in to them. Since then I have been to the USA quite a few times and I had no problems at the POE.
