So my fiance's passport was recently stolen ( when it rains it pours I swear). Is it true that the only place to get a replacement passport in Nigeria is Abuja? He said that it is only Abuja does a replacement, he is in Lagos... to me it doesn't make sense

As far as I know, reissues are only done in Abuja. If his current passport was issued recently then he might have a slight chance. But Nigeria is a very fluid country and things change.

Ya he needs to get a reissue, why is it only in Abuja that they do that?

It comes down to infrastructure.

Now that being said, he can set the ball rolling in Lagos and he woudl be given a day that he needs to go to Abuja for data collection. He can take an evening or night bus and arrive as they open in Abuja and be back in Lagos the following morning taking a bus right away (he will bask in the ambience of funny smells and world class snoring). No hotel stay necessary. I have never recommended air travel domestically and won't start now.

My mum also lost her passport just before an interview for visitors visa last year. All our efforts from every angle angle led us to Abuja. I could not understand it either but that ws what we had to do and the fees were terribly high. one friend of an in-law requested N100k to assist.Someone offered to help get the ball rolling in Lagos( like a poster suggested) but completion still needed travel to ABUJA and was asking for abt 50K. God's intervention from an unexpected source helped us get it done for the base price of N10k or less by one of the Ogas himself there.

So yes unless things changed within the past few months, lost passports must be redone in ABUJA. the only exception is if she had the old passport then she canjsyt apply for the electronic anywhere. You need police report, court affidavit and money. All the best.

GOD has been WONDERFUL!!!

He has to go to Abuja, they can only issue in Lagos or other places if it s the future, but if re-issue, he has to go to Abuja... Even if you are abroad, u have to return back to Abuja for re-issue

You mean my husband who is here in the US and whose passport is due to expire next year will have to return to Nigeria just to renew his passport????? :bonk:

I'll check on the process for the ECOWAS passport renewals.

Thanks...I have looked all over the internet and the only thing I am seeing is he would have to go for an appointment at either Embassy in Washington, DC or Atlanta...

My next step was just to call and find out.
