I-130 Timing

I've reviewed some of the topics here and people were discussing faster processing times. I sent in Form I-130 in mid-February and received the letter with my receipt number (NOA1 I believe). So far, I have not received anything else. I check the USCIS website and it says it's still in the initial review phase. I called the USCIS and there's no information because it hasn't been transferred to the field office yet. It's been about 5 months. Is this timeframe typical (website says average is 5.0 months for Vermont with a 9.0 month average nationally)? I'm worried I haven't received my NOA2 yet.

Approx 5 months - 6 months seems to be a normal waiting time for VSC. Looking at the 3 month trend, though, the expected value (mean average) of the waiting time is about 140 days (4.5 months) for VSC. Hang in there. Once you hit 5 months, give VSC a call and see what's up.

FYI - Your timeline says that NVC has received your application. You may want to change that. Right now it is still with USCIS if you haven't received your second Notice of Action (Approval) for the I-130 with VSC.

NVC is the National Visa Center, and your I-130 is received by NVC after VSC has approved it.

I changed that thank you. I'm just anxious and want it to proceed as quickly as possible. I see others have gotten information earlier than I did and I don't know what I should be doing. I called the USCIS to inquire about hastening the process but they said there are limited circumstances for this (e.g., deployment) and I'd need to provide proof. Since this isn't applicable to my situation, I started wondering about my case status.

Is there any rhyme or reason to different timeframes?

I think you might have requested to expedite your application. That's what they were referring to that you needed to provide proof that you had special circumstances. Did you tell them that your application has taken longer than the 5 month timeframe shown on the USCIS website? It's hard for me to tell you what to do. I only know that once your application hits 5 months (the timeframe shown on the USCIS website) you should call USCIS for assistance.

Read the instructions at the top of the page (in the link) of what to do when your date is already past the timeframe. This is essentially the only thing I know of to do. I would be interested to know if anyone else has suggestions for you. You may just need to wait the additional month or two others sometimes have to wait. I'm not sure if there is any reason it takes longer for some than for others. It may have to do with processing forms in batches; in reality I could only speculate. You need someone with actual experience. I wish there was someone on this forum that worked with USCIS. Apparently, there used to be someone who could answer questions like these. Too bad they probably aren't around anymore.

I just looked at your timeline one more time. If you take a look at it, near the bottom of the first chart on the timeline (showing dates) you'll notice the proposed adjudication date is between July 5 - July 13 for you. It is still only the 9th. You may want to wait until the end of the week before you start making more phone calls. They might be working on it right now.

The field is called Processing Estimates/Stats.

to find the field, go to your timeline, then press ctrl+f. Then type "stats" in the pop-up field. Your browser (if you have Internet Explorer) should take you to your likely approve date according to the website.
