No you don't get any document from the NVC for passport or police clearance certificate. You have to go to the police comissioner's oFfice.it will take around 15 days to get it.apply for it and keep it with you.in my case I had a cerificate from the passport office much before hand but I got the certificate from the police oonly 5 days before the interview.so get your paspassport clearance certificate and send it to the NVC once your I130 is approved and once they ask for the next set of documents.you are in a good position coz your I130 is still pending approval so you have the time to get both the certificates.

Congratulations! But once again I'm confused about why a local "police clearance" certificate besides what the PSK/Passport office gives is needed. Its not mentioned in the Mumbai counsulate's website or in the reciprocity tables under the US NVC website.

@Mr america- I had mentioned in my post that they never asked me for the police clearance certificate at the mumbai counsellate they only asked for the clearance certificate from the passport office.I had called the counsellate to enquire about this but they said they needed only from the passport office. But the thing is in my case my passport was less than 6 months old at the time my i130 was approved and when my husband sent out the package 4 which were the final documents to be verified before they gave me an interview date. And my passport was 20 days beyond the 6 months period at the time of the interview. So I genuinely don't know why they didn't ask me.If it was really not required or if i was not required as i was within the six months period. You know what just get it done and keep it with u.Because its not that big a procedure to get a PoCC than attending the interview and finding yourself in an awkward position where you don't have a document and you have to wait till you get one and then send it to the counsellate and wait for your visa process.SO best thing GET IT DONE:)

Thanks! But I think you were fine even if didnt have. The rules may have been different before but for the US counsulate, there is no rule behind if the passport is 6 months or older, and has to do with where reside currently. As per the NVC's documentation under (http://travel.state.gov/visa/fees/fees_5455.html?cid=9215), for which you'd fall under the first category is:

Police Records

Indian Police Clearance Certificates should be obtained as follows:

* All Indian IV applicants aged 16 and above, residing in India, should obtain police certificates from the local Passport Office.

* Indian passport holders applying for visas outside India should obtain a statement from their local embassy or consulate confirming they have no criminal record.

* Non-Indian IV applicants residing in India should obtain police certificates from the District Police Station serving their area of residence.

* Indian police certificates are not available for foreign (non-Indian) applicants applying outside India.

Excatly, I agree. My passport is older than 6 months so i will have to get the police clearance from District police office and passport clearance from where my passport was issued. That is difficult because I live in Ahemdabad, Gujarat, India and they ask for visa letter or checklist that we get from NVC then only they will accept my application to issue those certificates. I am sure this will delay my NVC process and am very much concerned about it. I am still waiting on my I-130 approval. MY NOA1 is of 18th Jan 2010 and its almost 6 months in next few days. I am all worried and upset about it.

Can anyone from Ahmedabad who has recently got the police and passport clearance guide or help me with this. I would like to know the procedure i need to follow to get these certificates faster, I have rest all documents that are needed for the NVC stage. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!!

If your counsulate is Mumbai, you would only need the passport office's PCC and that to bring for the interview date. Ahmedabad's passport office will not even issue the PCC without you having your interview letter which gets issued after the NVC case is completed.

Hi, I have a questions..I just got my police PVC today from DSP office (local police station). Now I have a questions about - do i need to send the police clearance (obtained from local police station) to NVC along with my DS-230 packet? While applying for PCC from passport office will they ask for original police clearance certificate or a photocopy or notarised copy will do. My passport office is Ahmedabad. Any hep will be appreciated.
