I am waiting for our K-1 visa to be approved which we hope to be sometime in November 2012. My fiancee's passport is going to expire in August 2012. I have a few questions about renewal.

1) Can she renew her passport in September instead?

2) Is it ok for her to use for Visa purposes a Philippine passport that is expiring less than five years?

3) Under the online application's purpose of travel, she is going to put "migration"?

4) Does she need the following? Green/MRP Passport - Php 200.00 and E - Passport - Php 350.00

Thanks for your help.

I don't understand, what advantage would there be to waiting until September, AFTER the passport has expired, to renew it? The passport is good for five years, so go ahead and renew if before August, and you'll still have five years. Of course the only rule is that the passport is valid for SIX MONTHS past the date you will use it. So if you renew now, her passport will be good for five years, and you wont' have to worry about it for a long time.

As her passport expires very soon, she is going to have problems! She needs to renew it as soon as possible!!!!

what is an e passport?

An epassport is the new maroon-colored machine readable passport (MRP).

She will need a passport with at least six months of validity remaining in order to travel to the U.S.

Thanks Tahoma! Are all PHL passports will be the new maroon colored machine readable passport? No more green passports?

It's all the Maroon ones now. If she is working abroad tell her just to go to the Philippine Embassy in the country she is working. It doesn't take long that's what my fiance did in Qatar. Her passport was about to expire and she just went to the embassy and got a new one.

Hi i just renewed my passport last July 2.

1. She can renew it whenever she wants but she should have her new passport before interview. But more convenience to do it earlier to avoid hassle.

2. Under Philippines law, passport should be 6 months valid before travel period.

3. Yes, I put mine "migration".

4. She needs old passport, I.D. and to be sure, she can bring with her Birth certificate and NBI (i did not asked for BC and NBI but its better to be ready just in case).

Thank you for the wonderful blessing :-)

Yep. Don't delay. The new passports require biometrics and a personal appearance. If the application is made at a foreign posting, there will be a delay while the application is submitted back to the Philippines and the new passport is forwarded to the consulate or embassy. Allow a few weeks.

Thanks everybody for replying. I will tell my fiancee to renew the passport before it expires.

It's kinda weird that they have to ask you for what purpose you are going to use your passport.
