The guy in the article was from Ivory Coast.

Religion in Côte d'Ivoire remains very heterogeneous, with Islam (almost all Sunni Muslims) and Christianity (mostly Roman Catholic) being the major religions. Doesn't say what religion he was, but from the above, there's a 35 to 40% chance he was muslim. Point being just cause the guy was from west Africa, doesn't mean he's not muslim.

The first names of the perp ("Jean") and the victims ("Regina" and "Rolls") are obviously not Muslim names. Nor is "Christmas" a Muslim holiday. I realize you would have to actually read the article to glean this information, but it would be more compelling than specious speculations based on Googling for the Muslim percentage of the population in the Ivory Coast:
