Hi

I was born in South Africa but have dual Nationality of South Africa and a European country.

I moved from South Africa and now live in Europe.

I am looking to possibly do a semester on exchange in the USA or possibly even work there for a short amount of time.

I have a small mark on my criminal record in South Africa for shoplifting about 7 years ago.

If I travel to the USA I would travel as an EU citizen on that passport and use my European addres as I live there now.

Would I need to disclose the record from South Africa and if I chose not to disclose it would it be an issue as I'm not sure if they would look for it.

Thank You

**** Duplicate post removed- please only post once on a question ****

Depends on the question asked on the visa form. For example on the Visa Waiver you can travel on as a European citizen, it only asks for certain convictions, so you could tick "no". If it asks for all criminal convictions, you must tell the truth. One minor shoplifting charge 7 years ago is unlikely to get you denied, but lieing about it will.
