I've been reading good things about the Samsung ssd's. Again, I don't care about the fastest drive of the month, but I want something fast and reliable. And as you said, the prices are dropping quickly. I have to get out of this, "I'll just wait a couple of months until the newest x arrives. As soon as I think I have decided on what I want, I read about the next latest and greatest that will be arriving shorty.

Samsung is one of the few that makes their own controller. They don't use the normal Sand Force drive and those Samsungs are nice...but expensive. Crucial is the other one that makes their own controller along with Intel. If you do go with a Sand Force controller look at one that comes with "Toggle Nand".

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The Crucial drives are supposed to be very reliable too and somewhat better priced than the Samsung's. Did you see that Microsoft is coming out with a couple of tablets sometime later this year? Supposedly when Windows 8 is launched.

I read that about those tablets but like the wife said when I asked her if she wanted a tablet, she said why when I can get a small laptop with more USB ports, etc... for cheaper. Makes sense. I would rather have the little extra's you get with a smaller laptop and they don't weight that much more, not to mention you get a better cpu with a laptop.

What sounds nice about the Microsoft tablet is the one called the Surface Pro. It will have an Ivy Bridge processor, usb port and a detachable keyboard - I think it's magnetic - so you can use it with the keyboard or the touchscreen. It combines the ease of the a tablet with some of the features of a notebook. The pro model will be much more powerful than an iPad. Time will tell. I just hope the Microsoft does a good job with it and Windows 8. I think there is going to be a lot of resistance to Windows 8 but I understand what they are trying to do. It will be the os for desktops, notebooks, tablets and phones.

Shouldn't we be posting numbers, or the time, temperature or a cartoon?

That tablet sounds like it comes with all the bells and whistles.

With the Windows 8...it seems like a lot of people b*tch about every new O/S that comes out. The went ballistic with Vista and I liked Vista myself. After the SP1 pk it was spot on. I have Windows 7 now and I like it and I'm going to give Windows 8 a shot next year when I get better internet and start gaming again.

How far are you from civilization? What do you have for internet where you are now, DSL?

I'm supposedly on 128K but I have never got that speed yet. I live in Dillingham. It's to the left of that map just below Bethel...on the Bering Sea side.

I hear the apple is soon to come out with a smaller version of the ipad.

I have yet to purchase an apple product and I don't see myself changing up anytime soon. Give me a Windows machine all day long.

128K is like fast dial up. That is slowwwwwwwww. How long have you been in AK?

Came up here in '81 and other than a 6 year stint down in Washington state for work Iv'e been here ever since. We plan on moving back to Big Lake (Alaska) when her contract is up. Were here now because they are giving her free schooling along with the dental job so we can't say no to that. But it sucks out here big time. No roads in, and no roads out. Fly in only unless you take a long boat ride here during the summer after the sea ice has went out. A gallon of milk here is $10 and change and a loaf of bread goes for $5. Gas here is right around $7 a gallon atm.

http://www.gci.com/terra/terrestrial-internet-plans <---- this is suppose to be available to us sometime this fall, but I'l believe it when I see it.

Ouch. Those prices are expensive and so are the internet plans. And even the fastest one is slow compared to here. You really are isolated where you are. What are the temperatures like now? I never saw you post in the temperature thread. Does it get hot?

It's probably about 50 out atm, and it's light out even though it's 10:50pm right now. In the winter though we don't get much sunlight and temps can drop down to 40 below although that's not the norm. It usually stays around zero here but we live right on the water and our weather comes in from the Bering Sea. It totally sucks big time. I can't wait to get the fck out of here and back to civilization. Big Lake is near Wasilla where they have taco bell, mcdonalds, etc... It's like heaven compared to this ####### hole. Drunk eskimo's yelling outside here 24-7 and all of them are related to each other one way or another.

There must not be much crime. There's no way to escape. So you have none of the national food chains or fast food. No WalMart? What is the main source of employment, the fishing industry? It must be nice to visit for a while but get boring after a while. It's not like you can hop in your car or truck and go into the city. And I image there's a lot of drinking.
