"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

All joking aside, if you don't get any help here, check out a photography or even a computer forum. There are usually lots of helpful people there.

I'm googling some graphic forums right now. Usually they want X amount of post on their board before someone there will make you a sig, but I try and cut to the chase and PM someone for some sig action.

You can check out notebookreview.com or overclock.net. They are computer forums but they have some very helpful members. It's not like here.

I forgot about Tom's. Another good choice. And you could also check out the Photoshop forums at Adobe. I have found the people at these computer sites to be very knowledgeable and helpful. Let me know how you make out. And it's good to see a non game thread in OT.

Thank you. I may have some questions for you. What are you running now? Processor, RAM, MB etc?

My connection out here is way too slow to game with. By the time we move back to civilization next summer Haswell should be out by then. If it's as good as people are projecting then I'l go with that depending on the benchmarks. ATM though Ivy Bridge 3570K is the big thing atm for gaming along with a new generation card for PCI-E 3.0 and a 1155 Z77 board. Nvidia and AMD have all the bugs worked out in regards to micro stuttering and dual vid cards so it's going to be Nividia whatever and SLI for some BF3...or whatever game is hot by then.

I've been reading up on Ivy Bridge since I never pulled the trigger on Sandy Bridge. I'm not into gaming any more, I just want to build a new rig for some photo and video use - along with using it for porn and VJ. Are you using ssd? That is a must for my next rig. At least the prices are dropping.

If you think your going to do a lot of photoshop then look at the 3770 or if o/c then the 3770K for the hyper threading. If it's just a casual hobby and no o/c then look at the 3450 ($190) at amazon and newegg. Those cpu's also have great on die graphics (intel HD4000) so you don't need a vid card. You can pick up a decent Z77 board for the lucid virtu for $100. RAM is dirt cheap also. 16GB of dual channel for $90 or 8GB for $45 or even less. Right now you can get a Sandisk 240GB SSD w/ SF Togle Nand for $200 and free shipping on amazon. As fast as they are dropping in price look for that same SSD to be around $150 by early fall or even the end of this summer.

I'd be using it at the casual/hobby level. Also ripping cd's and dvds. I may go with one of the K chips I'd like the i7 with hyperthreading but the i5 will probably be fine. I have a Micro Center near Boston and they usually beat Newegg on the processors but not much else. Sometimes you can save $40 -50 on a processor. The 3770K is 299.99 and the 3570k is 189.99.

Microcenter has some killer deals. Also check and see if they have any bundle deals (cpu + mobo).

I've been reading good things about the Samsung ssd's. Again, I don't care about the fastest drive of the month, but I want something fast and reliable. And as you said, the prices are dropping quickly. I have to get out of this, "I'll just wait a couple of months until the newest x arrives. As soon as I think I have decided on what I want, I read about the next latest and greatest that will be arriving shorty.
