So I will be reporting the birth of my son (CRBA) and along with it, I will be applying for a passport. I just reviewed the passport applcition form and it seems like I need to apply for a SSN as well. I already have a schedule for the interview (July 20, 2012 @ 730AM, MNL) do I really need to apply for the SSN separetly, I don't remember anything being mentioned about the SSN for passport while I was doing the CRBA.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Oh and if it helps, I'm from the Philippines, the non US-citizen and my boyfriend (the dad) won't be with me while during the interview.

No, you dont have to, but I think you can if you want. When you fill out the passport application electronically, you just put 000-00-0000 for the SSN. I had the same problem, because it doesnt let you proceed without putting a SSN and my daughter didnt have one either, but it actually says to do that if you read the instructions.. You dont need to apply for a SSN, I actually meant to ask when i was there if I could do that, but I forgot.

No. He doesn't [necessarily] need to be with me. Although it would be best if he is. But due to some circumstances, he is not able to fly here just for the interview.

Another "hassle" would be the additional documents needed as well as the help since I have to bring my 5 months old son.

Thanks! I actually read the instructions but got preoccupied with SSN and $500 penalty by the IRS.

Also, I understand you have done this just wanted to ask a few questions on filling this US passport form.

1.Where did you have the passport mailed? On the instructions it was stated that it will not be mailed in a private address outside the US.

(I can use my bf's add in GA if needed.)

2.For the Travel Plans, since you're coming from the Philippines, did you put in US as the destination?

Again, thank you very much!

Yes. He's my boyfriend. Not a husband. :)

We're hoping to not be asked one (so we're working really hard on establishing the physical presence during conception and he did sign the birth certificate), but we're ready for it.

It might just delay the process but, oh well.

1. When you are dont with your interview the CO will tell you to go across the way to the Air21 counter, then you can give them ANY address you want. I had mine delivered here to our house in Borongan City, Samar. The CO told me it would take 3-4 weeks but it was only 2 weeks exactly. So that is not true, you can have it delivered to a private address outside the US.

2. I dont actually remember putting any travel plans.. sorry. If you are not sure what to put you can leave it blank, they wont make a big deal about it. If you really want, I would just put the US.

Also, the best "proof" for physical presence during conception is gonna be passport stamps and flight itineraries showing arrival and departure dates. The passport stamps are the most official though, then lots of pictures and letters to prove your relationship. I had like 100 pictures and a stack of chat logs and hand written letters to each other spanning the entire time we have been together. The CO told us it was approved in like 30 seconds. Dont forget ultra sounds and all that stuff too. Good Luck!
