We bought round trip only because it was cheaper to buy that way, oddly enough, and had no problem at POE. One way is fine though.

Good luck with everything!

Many people purchase a round trip. POE will (most likely) understand. It's cheaper after all.

Make sure when he gets here to cancel the other way so you don't run into problems with immigration later.

Also, by canceling, you might get a credit for a future flight.

Also (again), some airlines offer discounts for people immigrating. You can call around and see what the scoop is.

Wow I wasn't aware that airlines will give a discount. I never even thought to ask. Thanks so much for the info!!!!!!

thank you!!

Yes! but i believe some agencies only sell you a OW ticket with proof of visa on passport. (But it depends of the country) if you buy it online you probably wont need it! :)

Congrats!

muchas gracias!!!

My SIL traveled with a K1 visa using a round-trip ticket from Madagascar to the States.

She had no problem at the POE.

thank you!!!

congrats and Good luck on the interview!!!

thanks so much!!!! Congrats on your case complete!!!

Buy which ever is cheapest. However, if you do buy a RT, please be sure to take the time to cancel the return leg just in case the airline sells the seat and does not remove his name from the travel list. The USCIS will accuse him of leaving and it will be up to you guys to prove he did not leave the US. There was a thread here in VJ about this. I bought a RT with the return leg 89 days after POE as a just in case and canceled it once we were married. RT was $2200 OW was $3100.

Good luck,

Dave

You might also give consideration to purchase a one-way ticket with frequent flier miles as their change fees are much less (or nothing which is the case for us on Cathay Pacific). I was optimisic (before I joined the forum) and made a reservation on my birthday in October with a 12-hour layover in Hong Kong to break up the long trip back to San Francisco from Bangkok - needless to say my 129F appication hasn't been touched at CSC since it arrived the 20th of April, so the ticket will be put into suspense (along with me and Jamnan).

we will not purchase his ticket until he has the visa in hand. too many variables to consider and we certainly don't want to throw away money for such an expensive flight...

Congrats and best of luck in the interview :D

thank you!!

Do not buy a one way ticket! It is more than double the price! I went to Chile with no return date since my fiancé and I first tried living in Chile and my one way ticket was over $3,000 so I spoke to my travel agent who told me to buy a round trip ticket and then when I got to Chile cancel the return flight there was no extra charge. Thanks to her advice my ticket was $1,200. Hope this helps! Also if you have a travel agent talk to them about it. Mine is going to reserve a seat for me and my fiancé after the interview without charging us and if his flight has to be canceled she would do it without any problem. Some travel agents really try helping you out. Good luck!

Woohoo congrats!!:dance::dance: May the visa interview be a smooth and easy experience. So happy for the two of you coming finally to this juncture  Travel agents are very helpful when it comes to getting a much cheaper ticket price so try them first. However, look online yourself and you may be able to beat the travel agent's price. Good websites include: cheaptickets.com, cheapOair.com, travelation.com, ebook.com, expedia.com(you can name your price sometimes and see if the website excepts your bid). Hope this helps you.....take care, have a safe flight over there, and be safe.

thanks so much. I guess this whole process just made me a little paranoid. I just want him here and I want a smooth POE for him!

That something I was concerned about the same thing and even though round trip was cheaper decided to purchase one way just to make sure things went smooth and thankfully it did. The best to you on your journey :)

I was wondering about about it (OW ticket) it is good to know. I read once that we would have to purchase two way ticket when she comes to USA which is very soon I hope.

My fiance just passed the medical exam and the embassy interview will be Tuesday next week. She is pregnant and I want to have her here in the USA ASAP.

We will not wait to receive the visa. As soon as she is done with the interview and everything is fine we will make plane reservations probably three week after the interview.

It doesn't matter if you have a one-way ticket or a return... the two-way ticket is often cheaper to buy, and they're not going to know that you're not planning to use the return leg.
