Me and my bf has decided to get married this summer, so that I can file for the AOS and stay here, since he was diagnosed with a serious cancer about a week ago.

We had no intentions to get married when I came here in the beginning of June, but this situation has made us convinced to do this. Cause I wan't to stay here, and follow him through his treatment.

I've started to do research about this, and reading the guide on how to do the AOS.

I would very much appreciate, if some of you who's done the AOS on VWP could tell me a little bit about your own experiences.

Is it best to hire a lawyer? Did you hire a lawyer, or did you make it by yourself? Something extra special I need to think about?

I didn't hire a lawyer and didn't need one. I filed within the 90 days and everything went smoothly.

My husband over-stayed by two years(I don't recommend this! Financial reasons) before we could file, and it all went smoothly. You don't need a lawyer, just use the guides and follow the instructions carefully, and ask questions here if you have any :) We have our interview in just over 2 weeks.

I overstayed for 12 years. Yes 12.

My process was a little crazy at the end but even with my red flags.I was approved 6 months after interview (But I really wasnt the norm)

04/08/2011 (Day 30) Successful Biometrics for I-765/I-485
05/13/2011 (Day 65) EAD received in the mail
05/14/2011 (Day 66) Email confirming EAD approved (Case updated online TOUCH)
05/20/2011 (Day 72) SSN In the Mail.

09/08/2011 (Day 200 ) Email notification of Interview.
10/11/2011 Interview at 26 Federal Plaza, NY!
Interviewed and Am expecting RFEs!
10/13/2011 (Day ***) Received RFE-- Requesting that I provide documentation to prove I was never married in Uk or Illin
02/11/2012 (Day ***) Service request..Told its being reviewed by supervisor

24th March 2012!!!!!!!!!!! Email notifiying me of CARD IN PRODUCTION
03/26/2012 (Day 376) Emails confirming that my I-130 and I-485 have been approved.

4/2/2012 Green Card In Hand!

Unbelievable that my journey took this long but Im thankful

Next Stop Premed...Yup!

3/24/2014 Application for conditions to be removed

9/22/2014 APPROVED without interview.
