Hello VJ members :) I hope everyone is doing well. Just a quick and silly question.. My fiance is from Morocco and I sent out his K-1 petition February 1st and they received it February 3rd. So my question is, according to VSC I am past the 5 month mark, Does that mean I can call now to check on the petition?? Thank you in advance for your advice and sorry for silly questions, I am just getting anxious like everyone else.

It never hurts to be proactive with your petition. But, you will get a standard answer about "they are not outside of their normal processing time" and to call back. We went through the same thing and I started calling in earnest at 6 months and one day. It took about 3 more weeks but we finally got it. We also got the standard "they were looking in it" and "to call back if we had not heard anything in 30 days". Ha ha, that didn't happen. I called regularly. I was always polite and courteous, but I stood my ground. Good luck and I hope you get an answer soon.

Hi Nicky,

I'm not sure if you saw my last topic post in the Morocco portal, but I spoke to my attorney this week about the whole VSC slowdown. She said their office is about a month behind on processing pretty much all requests at this time. She didn't have any more insight than that, except to say that everything they've sent from her office to VSC (various immigration cases, and not only K-1 or C1/R1) is getting responses three to four weeks after the posted time frame goals. Since immigration is the only type of law this office practices, I'm guessing she's got a pretty good idea of what she's talking about. I know it doesn't make you feel any better about not having any notification (believe me, I'm right there with ya!!), but just so you know...

  • Jan 20th, 2012 - Mailed I-129F Package to VSC
  • Jan 31st, 2012 - NOA1 Received
  • Jul 11th, 2012 - NOA2 Received
  • Jul 17th, 2012 - Received at NVC/Case Number Assigned
  • Jul 19th, 2012 - Petition Sent to Casablanca Consulate
  • Jul 23rd, 2012 - Petition Received at Casablanca
  • Jul 27th, 2012 - Packet 3 Received
  • Sept 5th, 2012 - Interview (approved)
  • Sept. 7th, 2012 - Visa Received
  • November 16th, 2012 - POE: Atlanta, GA
  • December 1st, 2012 - Married
  • March 21st, 2013 - AOS Filed

Well it does make me very sad but thx for the info. I do know of someone else who had filed after us and she just got her noa2. They are from Morocco also. I was kind of hoping for good luck for us also, lol I hope we both get approved very soon, incha'allah

I did and I couldn't figure out how to talk to a real person. I heard no option for it but I am actually going to call again right now and will let you know :D

Hello, my dear! I can help with that whole live person thing...

Call USCIS' customer service line: 800.375.5283.

The series of numbers you push to get to a live person is 1-2-1-1-2-2. In other words:

press 1 for English,

then 2 for filing your petition not online,

then 1 for immigration services,

then 1 to check status of your application,

then 2 for "I don't know my receipt number".

The auto attendant will tell you where to look,

then you enter 2 again to say you've lost it.

They'll then transfer you to a live person (assuming you call between 8a and 8p EST).
