So I asked - is there a meaningful difference in the scores between blacks in the south and other groups of Blacks around the country.

Mississippi ranks lowest in education for everyone. So yes, there is a difference. Do you think the education system is bad in Mississippi randomly? Do you think this has nothing to do with it being a republican state run by the "good ol' boys"? Do you think it has the highest rate of poverty in the country randomly? Do you think poverty and poor standards of education are unrelated?

Danno showed that the scores in Detroit match the scores in Mississippi so what are you even talking about?

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Let's just be honest, Slavery and it's little Brother Jim Crow is a gift that just keep giving for libs.

“There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs – partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.”

No he didn't. He hasn't presented one fact. You also cannot compare a state to a city, maybe you should learn how statistics work. :bonk:

We are talking about states that had slavery, not random cities. Give up.

As if it were "facts" you only needed to change your viewpoint.

EVEN SO DANNO's hunch was dead on (again)

Go to the interactive map here. http://nationsreportcard.gov/science_2011/g8_state.asp?subtab_id=Tab_5&tab_id=tab1#chart

You can click on race or other categories to compare between states.

In this example go to the map and click the "Black" tab it will allow your curser to scan each state and the score will appear and also a note if it was above or below the national average for THAT group.

For instance Blacks in the former slave State of SC Scored 128

Blacks in the State of Wisconsin (far from Slavery or Jim crow) scored on average even lower at 121.

This is not an unusual comparison, even the states in which the Southern state did score lower... it wasn't by much and in no state is the Black test scores show anything but dismally behind the average White/ Asian score.

So I think it's time for the defenders of "historical excuses" to put up some data if they have it which shows any EVIDENCE where Jim Crow is behind our Black students test scores being in the basement.

Didn;t have to be but the usual suspects always want to turn it into the "inferiority" angle.... when no one even -went there.

It seems that depicting blacks as somehow inferior is at the very center of this topic. When these pastors declare that whites are god's chosen people, they are relegating all others to an inferior level.

My question to these pastors would be the consequences for those who are not 100% white and the question that remains is whether the color of one's soul matches the color of the skin and whether it reflects the genetic composition of the DNA.

And the most pressing of all questions is, if whites are the chosen people, why did god create the other races, in what is obviously a severe blunder committed by a god who is allegedly perfect and who makes no mistakes. Apparently these pastors have indicted god of imperfection and lowered it to their own human condition. Their actions very much corroborate the notion that man created god to his own image.

People who make racist comments are bad people. I can't understand how they think they will go to "heaven" if they behave in such a way.

One can discuss a news story about racism without the tone turning into a pro-racist thread or the need to accuse others who don't hold your "exact" personal views on things .. racist, (not saying you did or didn't).

In order to understand people who think and believe different than you, it takes a little effort and sometime open mindedness... not to agree but to understand past a cartoonish way (though with this group it is not so easy).

- The word "chosen" people is a common reference. The first born male in many situations is known as the -chosen son.

Many Christians openly claim the Jews are "gods chosen people". Does that mean they view themselves as "vermin of the earth"

Not exactly.

In the egalitarian mind, all races are equal in every way, it is an Orthodoxy which can't be challenged in the recent few decades of the Western world (yet was nearly unknown before that). But this idea is laughable in many or most parts of the world. So the ideas about a hierarchy of races these guys hold is probably closer to the majority view point in the world. Though most people see this hierarchy more along the lines of -usefulness- rather than some "higher purpose" though that is common as well, we can see the fruit of that in the news daily.

For me the Story is -How this story was covered, handful of old guys doing virtually the same thing many other groups do..Set themselves apart by their racial identity... Even the president has belonged to such groups, yet this one is presented as something unusual or spectacular. It literally takes a "NEW BLACK PANTHER PARTY" with death threats and the waving around of guns and bounties to get such similar treatment.

The reason you "can't understand" is because you assume everyone holds or should hold your concepts of what is good and evil.

Racism can be as simple as believing some people have a disposition to dance more naturally or have more intelligence or a thousand other variances.... why would someone go to hell for that ...rather than how they treated people..... all people?

Mississippi is the most conservative state in the country. It has no fortune 500 companies. The biggest employer is the military. There is very little chance of excelling. Wages are the lowest in the nation. The same job in a neighboring state will always have higher pay. The median household income is $36,850. The good ol' boys prevent the state from progressing, it's not about what you know, all that matters is who you know. Slavery was prevalent, as a result it has the highest percentage of African Americans in the country. The scores are below the national average in Science, Reading and Mathematics.

Washington is in the top 10 liberal states. It has 8 fortune 500 companies. The biggest employer is Boeing. There are many job opportunities here. The median household income is $58,330. It became the 42nd state in 1889, after slavery was abolished. It ranks #36 in the nation for the % of African American inhabitants. The scores are above average in Science, Reading and Mathematics. They are considerably higher than the scores for Mississippi.

I assume that Christians who claim to follow the bible know right from wrong, clearly these people don't understand the bible or they wouldn't do this. "Sacred Christian Cross Lighting" ceremonies that "don't have the facilities to accommodate other people. We haven't got any invitations to black, Muslim events" are inciting racial hatred, this is wrong. There is no way to justify this as being Christian.

Cross burning or cross lighting is a practice widely associated with the Ku Klux Klan, although the historical practice long predates the Klan's inception. In the early 20th century, the Klan burnt crosses on hillsides or near the homes of those they wished to intimidate.

Are those school statistics you posted for the entire states population, or just the black population, which is what the original premise was based upon. Got a link?
