I'll try anything at least once so I've had quite a few forms of organ meats in my life. I think some organ meats are good. These are my opinions of course but...Tongue of any form is not bad. I've had lamb, beef, and duck tongue before. You wouldn't hate it if you tried it cooked correctly! Chicken, duck, and goose liver is also pretty tasty! Beef and lamb are NOT.

I even had sheep testicles in Morocco a few years ago and I admit the taste wasn't bad. Same goes for lamb brains and sweetbreads.

Heart, lung, stomach, kidneys are all awful in any form! *barf*

Just reading this while drinking my morning coffee...*barf* :P

My hubby told me they eat sheep testicles and how yummy they are. I will never know and hopefully never have to cook them!

These are my opinions of course but...Tongue of any form is *just plain wrong* not bad. I've had lamb, beef, and duck tongue *ducks have tongues??? and if so...is there enough to even eat?* I wanna know who looked in a ducks beak and said .."hey I'mma give that sliver o meat a taste"... *shudders* before. You wouldn't hate it if you tried it cooked correctly! umm...I'd rather not find out! Chicken, duck, and goose liver is also pretty tasty! *barf* Beef and lamb are NOT.ahh finally words of wisdom lol!! :innocent:

I even had sheep testicles *they gotta be tiny lil thangs unlike the "rocky mountain oysters" aka bull testicles they have in Missouri* (which btw I've never tried) in Morocco a few years ago and I admit the taste wasn't bad. Same goes for lamb brains I'd only eat brains if it was scientifically proven to make me smarter....sorry, not gonna try'em and sweetbreads.

Heart, lung, stomach, kidneys are all awful in any form! *barf* (AND imho things that should be left to keep a body alive and not swallowed EVER)

 bleck!!! no innards for this gal

My husband tells me about the sheep testicles as well, and he says he is going to surprise me with them some day. Sick and wrong I tell ya, sick and wrong.

I took a detour from my 3 month tour of india to do an egyptian cooking week. Here's some of what I made, more recipes to come:

Potato and Green Bean Salad - Egyptian Style

According to the husband, he's never seen anything like this in egypt, but it gets two big  from both of us. Very very tasty. We ate it all in 2 days, so I'll have to make more to last us the rest of the week

Egyptian Garlic Yogurt Cucumber Salad

I love this too. I warm pita bread up and use this as a dip.

I made chicken shwarma last night. It was quite tasty, but it didn't seem like shwarma to me.

Still, it's definately in the two  up category and will be made again.

Further cooking fun this week:

Kebab Halla, stewed lamb - the husband says it tastes like something from egypt. He gives it two

Butter Braid - I made mine with apples and cream cheese. Next time, I'm going to use strawberries for one, and chocolate chips for the other. Mmmm, very good, and very easy to take for breakfast.

OK, here's the new Turkish recipes I learned yesterday. They were all 3 very good. One of the Turkish women from the group has invited me over to her house for dinner in a couple of weeks, so I'm looking forward to that.

Lentil Soup

1 C lentils (they used red)

1 1/2 C water

1 med onion, chopped

1/4 C vegetable oil

2 Carrots, chopped

tomato paste (maybe 2-3 T)

salt, pepper, oregano, dry mint

Saute' the chopped onion, carrots, & tomato sauce in a pot w/ veg. oil. Add lentils to the mix & roast/saute' all together for a while, then add water. Stir all mix until boiling. After soup cooks, use a blender to make it smooth. Garnish w/ mint & serve.

Ic Pilav (Rice w/ currants, pine nuts, & beef)

1 C rice (uncooked)

2 C water or beef broth

1 small onion chopped

2 T veg oil

100 gr beef (abt 1/4 lb), baked or boiled (for broth), cut into small pieces

2 T currants

2 T divided almonds or pine nuts, roasted

1/2 C (frozen or fresh) corn, peas, & carrots (she used that frozen mixture - you know the one)

1/2 t cinnamon

salt & pepper

Saute' the onion w/ veg oil for 2-3 min. Add the cooked beef, then add the rice, currants, almonds or pine nuts, cinnamon, salt & pepper, and stir. Pour hot beef broth in. Cover w/ lid. Turn the heat down to low & cook until the rice absorbs all the water. Let the Pilav stand for about 5 min.

Tahini Cake - this was an unexpected sweet treat!

9 T butter

2 eggs

2 1/2 C flour

1 3/8 C sugar

1 1/4 C yogurt (plain)

8 T tahini (4 T for cake, 4 T for sauce) - she was a little more generous than this - I'd say 10 T, 5 each

1 T baking powder

1/2 T vanillin powder (comes in a pkg at the Int'l market)

5-6 T honey

Melt/soften butter. Mix eggs, sugar, vanillin, yogurt, tahini (4-5 T). Add the butter slowly so as to not "cook" the eggs w/ the warm butter, continually mixing. Add flour & baking powder. Pour into 9x13 greased pan.

Prepare the sauce: mix 4-5 T tahini w/ 5 T honey. Drizzle sauce over cake mixture (you can make designs w/ a fork) - she made it look kind of marbled.

Bake @ 350 until firm - about 15-20 min.
