had CR-1 Interview today and CO kept my passport

I had my CR-1 interview today. the interview went well and finally thought the consular officer would approve the visa. But then she retained my passport saying that they would send it to me in a weeks time. Not sure what exactly happened. Do they want to go with some more checks or something?

Anybody correct me if I'm wrong. They usually keep the beneficiary's passport to stamp the visa and send it back to the beneficiary. So for me, it's approved and that's the normal process. I don't think they'd keep your passport if the visa is not approved.

This is normal procedure. They have to compile the 'packet' or 'big brown sealed envelope' that must remain sealed and can only be opened by the immigration officer, upon your arrival in the US.

If they did not give you any bad news it means you should be good to go once you get everything in the mail/courier.

Did they say anything about being approved specifically? Hopefully are and should receive it soon. Please let know when have it!

As far as i know they usually say that visa has been approved after interview. but in my case there was nothing. And there was also some miss communication where i just left without asking even a question. bad on my part.

Now what i'm assuming is,

1. my wife is a Nurse and she'z going back to school but work as well at the same time and I mentioned it at the time of interview which i believe i shouldn't have. but Even in that circumstances her studies wont bring her below poverty line.

2. I was a former exchange visitor of which i will complete my 2 years home residency in the month of august next month. CO asked me about it but she did not bother much.

I think you are approved. Check with Mumbai VFS office to know where your passport and visa is located at present.

Call to DOS to check your case status, they can confirm whether your visa has been approved or under process.

I checked online and it says my passport is under process at US consulate.

I think you'll probably be pleasantly surprised when you get your package in the mail.

In IR1/CR1 when they deny, they give you the reason due to the lack of which documentation or evidence they do not grant your visa. Sometimes they send it back to USCIS or ask beneficiary to provide the requested evidence to get the visa approval from embassy. Nothing happened with OP in this case, so it's an approval here.

Could they give option to pick up the passport in person from VFS, or the counsulate as soon as the visa is issued, instead of waiting for it in the mail?
