Packet 3 - Big mistake on my part

In all the hassle and rush, I sent off packet three without signing DS-230 part one, or DS-156. I only realized this after returning home and looking over my photocopied packet. My heart nearly stopped. I can't sleep as I'm too stressed out that this will delay my process majorly. It took me a month to get my packet 3 instructions, I'm worried it'll take just as long to get any other mail from them.

I tried e-mailing contactus_en_ca@usvisa-info.com from http://usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/ss_country_welcome, however I only got this automated response:

This is an automatic response acknowledging receipt of your request. We will process your request within 3 business days.

If you have already sent information to us please DO NOT SUBMIT additional requests on the same matter. If necessary we will contact you to clarify any information needed. Sending multiple e-mails with the same request only slows response time.

Please note: The Contact Desk is for technical issues only such as applicant record issues, payment validation issues or correcting DHL routing issues.

Inquiries concerning visa questions or assistance in confirming, canceling, or rescheduling (aside from No Shows) your visa appointment will not be answered through this service.

We cannot provide you any status updates regarding your application (NIV or IV) as we are not consular officers.

Please return to the home page of our website for all visa and appointment information and to review our FAQs for answers to the most common issues.

Who can I contact by phone preferably? What should I expect to happen now?

Pretty dissapointed in myself for letting the stress get the best of me :(

I'm guessing they'll just ask you to sign it at the interview. If I recall correctly you're actually supposed to sign the DS 230 in front of a consular officer. I'm guessing that as long as you filled out everything else correctly and included all the necessary documents you won't get an RFE.

At the day of my interview, when I was having my documents processed before seeing the consular officer, a lady handed Packet 3 back to me and asked me to review it and make any necessary corrections on it. If you are not instructed to sign the forms then you can simply let the consular officer know and ask them if they want you to sign.

E-mail is your only shot at contacting Montreal; they do not answer the phone. Include your case number in the subject line and make your question as brief and to the point as possible to increase your chances of getting a response.

Their email is montreal-iv-dv@state.gov

As Pocheros said, they will ask you to sign DS-230 during your interview. I don't recall having to sign the other form in Packet 3, but as you have to have an interview with Montreal, I assume they would just ask you to sign it on the spot too. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, I really hope this is the case. I contacted them by te email you provided pocheros. DS-230 part two is supposed to be signed at the interview, so is DS-156K. I'm really praying hard that they let me sign the rest at the interview as well!

The silly things I do under stress..

Hey, almost the same thing happened to me actually!

I sent in Packet 3 and then was horrified when I was looking at the copies I took for my own record and realized that I did not sign DS230 part 1!! I emailed just as you did asking if I should resend the form with a signature.

However, in my case they sent me Packet 4 without any mention of the missing signature and I never received a response to my email. At this point I can only assume that they will have me sign it at the interview. Hopefully this goes smoothly for you as well!

Best of luck,

Lisa

Don't stress! It doesn't seem like a big deal to me. As the others said, they will likely have you sign at the interview. I made an error on one form, told them at the interview, and they fixed it. No problems. For the most part everyone there is pretty calm and understanding. Just make sure you don't walk out without signing the form. If they don't notice or bring it up, make sure you do.

I wouldnt worry to much. When I sent in my pkg3 .. I completely missed a form entirely. The schedualed me and I showed up to my interview. It was at this time, that the mistake was brought to my attention. I was freeking out thinking that I would have to go home, redo and rescheduale ... nope, they led me to a back room with computers and just let me do it there. People make mistakes, im sure that I wasnt the first to make one, nor will I be the last. The consulates are quite accomidating.

Hey Rema. You'll need a long form birth certificate for the interview - original...and a photocopy.

Long form includes your parents full names as where the short form does not.

Hope that helps! :) See you on the 23rd! haha

Did you complete and send in Part II of the DS-230 even thought it only asks for Part 1? And did you complete the DS160 online? I've been reading, some say yes do it, others say its not necessary. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hey :)

I only completed Part 1 of DS-230, but I sent in Part 2 as well, just incomplete. I did complete DS-160 online, and I printed out the confirmation page that it gave me, I also clicked the option to have the confirmation page sent to my e-mail just in case I lost the physical copy of it, since I don't think you can retrieve it afterwards. If it's on the Packet 3 list, make sure you do it, I did everything that was on the list. I just looked over the list on the website and nothing has changed since I did it in the beginning of July.

Good luck :) PM me if you have any other questions.
