I think that the petitioner became a US citizen, that's why NVC scheduled interview earlier!

I think if someone becoming USC NVC or DOS they changing the case from F2A to immediate relative, and how much i now they not scheduling interviews USC under F2A.

The date NOA2 was approved and the case was assigned a case # would be 2011, Nov 31. Also depending on his service centre the PD would be that date minus 6-12 months

That is not what happened. The NVC case number has nothing to do with the PD as was explained earlier in this thread, it is simply based on the day that NVC received the file from USCIS which could more or less be any time after the petition was originally filed. There is no way to figure out the PD from the NVC case number, only that it is before the day that the file was received by NVC.

PD: 6/1/2010

NVC case number has nothing to do with priority date. The year in the NVC number means when the NVC received your case and assigned your case number , just like the other member told you. Your priority date could be December 1,2010 and your NVC case number could start with XXX 2012 if the NVC received and assigned your case number in that year.

How to interpret NVC Case Number

To folks those who wish to interpret the NVC Case number.

The NVC case number is made of two different parts.

Part 1)

The overseas embassy or the consulate where the case for immigrant visa will be processed at

Part 2)

The date when NVC created the case.

Here is the detail explaination :-

First Three Characters (position 1 to 3) :

They represent the three character code for the overseas consulate where immigrant visa will be granted or will be forwarded after NVC completes the process.

Next Four digits (position 4 to 7) :

They represent the year which the case was created at NVC.

Next three Digits (i.e. position 8 to 10):

The "Julian" day of the year on which the case was created at NVC.

Next three Digits (i.e. position 11 to 13):

The total case numbers assigned to the overseas consulate / embassey on that partcular day with this being the latest one.

Now let's consider a sample NVC Case Number (MNL2007547002):-

MNL :- US Embassey/Consulate in Manila.

2007 :- Year when NVC created the case

547 :- 47 th day of Year 2007. This day NVC created the case.

002 :- The second case assigned to Consulate in Manila, on 47 the day of Year 2007.

Having the information on the structure of the NVC Case will help find out where does your case stay with reference to the cases waitlisted at that consulate / embassey.

I hope someone will verify this information.

Everyone seems to have answer to my queries but here is another one anyway.

When my husband filed i130 for me, he chose AOS but somehow the case went for consular processing.

Should I assume there is a problem?

Someone answer please!

The case is GOING TO be set for consular processing and will be there for sometime.. unless your priority date is current.. your case is not ready to be processed. They assume they many applicants will not maintain their legal status for X number of years. You can notify the NVC that you intend to process it as an AOS and they would forward the case to USCIS who will fwd it to the local office who has jurisdiction over your local area.
