Showing your underwear in Public

I went to my old hometown in Middle Ga today to a 4th Celebration. It was good to go home, as I ahd not been in years. There was a group of youths standing around, and one had his pants down below his butt. A cop went over and warned him once, the kid pulled them up a tad then pulled them back down as soon as the cop walked off. The Cop came back and warned him again. Same thing happened

The Cop came back. Walked up to him. Cuffed him up and escorted him away from the area . Apparently their is a local ordinance against having your butt hanging out in public and it is enforced.

I just fail to understand how having your pants hanging around your knees and barley being able to walk is cool ? I do understand how cuffing the said perpetrator made me feel really good about hoping there are a few sane people left in America.

Some say it's style/fashion. I see a few walking around in tight pants steaming their balls. I try to make sense of it.

Yeah I guess. I reckon if I have lived long enough that what young people do irritates me, it just means I am old.

Has nothing to do with age. Wearing your pants so low that everytime you cross the street your life flashes before your eyes is stupid.

I agree with you 100% and it irritates the heck out of me, but as a libertarian, the cop handcuffing an otherwise well behaved decent looking kid, bothered me a tad also. Sort of playing the devils advocate, but I could could see his underwear, the flip side of that is that underwear is an article of clothing and does cover the butt. Darn tuff call.

This type of behaviour originate from the prisons. Then it was portrayed in the music videos and became cool and acceptable behaviour among the youths. Utter ridiculousness.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

The concern is that the 'fashion statement' is prison/igang influenced. The City of Atlanta did indeed pass a law that states it is illegal to wear pants so low that undergarments show. It has been very well publicized and is meant as a means to discourage young men from imitating prison/gang attire as if it is something 'cool'. It is indeed being enforced - and that young man had 2 chances to correct the problem and choose not to. That was pretty lenient, so he has no one but himself to blame.

Here's a true story from about a year before the ordinance was passed . . . a young man with his pants really low on his hips was seen breaking into cars. Police were called who arrived on the scene and interrupted him in the act. The young man turned and started to run away - and got about 10 feet before he promptly fell flat on his face. His pants were so low that he was not able to run and his knees got tangled up in the crotch, tripping him. Looking 'cool' certainly didn't save him from a lot of very public ridicule and laughter - as well as jail time.

There have been debates in other cities that are part of the Greater Atlanta Metropolitan area whether they will enact a similar ordinance. Some have and some haven't.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Didn't read what you linked (12am) so I'll stick to my diagram behind this popular fashion trend. Not sure if anyone said it but I also heard that prisoners may have 'dropped' their pants to irritate the COs and or being inmates continue with their love of breaking rules (be it now the ones concerning attire).

These young people are missing the point or are outright deluded. The idea is not to let one's pants sag, but to ensure that one's underwear (that of others) defies gravity. Everyone who has not yet answered this VJ poll are invited to do so, si man:

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

my link basically said that diagram is false... sagging pants did originate in prison but not for the reason stated.. it was because a lot of prisoners were given clothes that were too big and they are not allowed to have belts..
