Hello all and happy Independence Day!

I am getting ready to file, and although the whole process looks pretty straightforward and instructions are clear, I just wanted to make sure that I got some things right.

These are the things/documents that I am going to send (applying on the basis of marriage to a U.S. citizen):

N-400

Two photos

A money order (680$)

Husband's passport front page photocopy

Our marriage certificate (international version - English included) photocopy

IRS tax return transcripts for the last 3 years

Other documents that I am thinking to add are joint savings account statements, renter's insurance, apartment lease. Are these going to be sufficient?

When it comes to tax returns, do I send photocopies or the original (I mean, those were free, so I can order more any time)? I am not supposed to send the account transcript, just the tax return transcript, correct?

Thank you!

Cannot edit this post now, but I can see that GC photocopy is missing on the list.

I have decided to send transcript originals because it is easy to order more.

Hello,

If its based on marriage to US citizen, make sure either sending a copy of his birth certificate or copy of almost all passport pages (as of USCIS instructions).

any other documents, send only copies and take originals to your interview.

I will put my list for comparison:

passport photos

check

n400

copy of marriage certificate.

copy of divorce certificates

copy of IRS transcripts

copy of US birh certificate/passport/naturalization certificate (any will do, depends on your situation)

copy of my DL and social security , and my US spouse DL (both prove same address)

bonafide documents (copies of banks statemens, credit cards, electricity, internet, vehicles insurance policy show both names, life insurance shows both names, apartment lease for the last 3 years shows us living together at the same address, etc etc )

When its time for the interview, you take all originals of what you send plus your own passport (sometimes they like to see it specially if you travelled)

Hope that helps:)

Hi

I am about to apply to, I have a question about the biometrics, I thought if I did mine within the 15 months I don't need a new one. My concern is i'll be traveling after 2 weeks and i'll be away for 40 days! I was worried that I would get a biometric appointment? when do they usually send the bio appointment after sending the application?

Thank you

Hello,

Every office is little bit different, but in June filers thread, I noticed it takes approx 7-10 days to get the biometric letter( from the NOA date), mine took 6 days. Anyway, this should not be taken as the standard, every office is different and their load is different, and every case is different.

My best advice is: if its so so important to be away and can not wait at all, then you need to give access to someone you trust to your mail, so once the letter arrive, they can open it and let you know when your biometric is (and you should expect your letter in your mail within a week after you get your online update that they sent it. This way you know when the biometric is, and if you will still be away, then you need to write to them to reschedule it (the letter contains instructions for that matter)

if you can hold your travell, even better to avoid the hassle.

Hope that helps

Hello!!! I am getting ready to apply for naturalization on the basis of marriage to a US citizen. As I was going over the required documents, I got confused with an item on "If you were married before, send: Proof that all marriages ended (divorce decree(s), annulment(s), or death certificate(s). Is this referring to marriages after having granted permanent residence? I had an annulment of my previous marriage in my own country and that was prior to meeting my US citizen husband. My husband & I submitted my annulment papers & his divorce papers to USCIS & US Embassy as one of the requirements in securing my K1 visa and adjusting my status to permanent resident. I got my permanent resident card (valid for 10 years) last October 2011. Do I need to submit those documents again for my application for naturalization? Sorry I am new here and my first time to inquire. Thanks for your help!!!

Hello!

That's a good question. If I were in your situation, I would send everything again. It will not hurt you if you do and it might greatly prolong the process if you do not.

Yes, you need to submit the required documents. It is a different process.

I can not add more to what other members said.

I guess the reason they keep asking the same documnts again and again is for comparison reason where they make sure of the validity of the information you provide, If there are any discrepencies, you will be questioned, and if you can not prove what you say, you are in trouble.

You are good to go :)

Thanks!!! I shall consider your suggestion.
