The Dutch military was the first to try this ####### and this is what happened when the Dutch finally got their chance to show off their "modern politically correct military".

I think it's a stretch to call them "military" I think "school crossing guards" is more appropriate. I have Serb and Russian friends that say that never happened. They're Canadians now. That country will take anyone with a pulse.

the part in bold seems like a good thing to me..

I agree that thinking under stress is important but it's leadership trait learned after BASIC training at places like the NCO or Staff Academies.

In my opinion (as dated as it may be) basic training should be used to introduce basic warrior traits and more importantly discipline, the instant willingness to obedience of orders, respect for authority and self reliance. I didn't want mindless privates but I sure as hell wanted blind obedience. Let them exercise critical thinking when they are leaders not recruits.

Basic was a good way of weeding out the ones who didn't have what it takes. I think we had a half dozen of them in our company that couldn't handle it and ended up getting sent home but only after they spent a few weeks being humiliated while they were waiting for their ticket home. You don't want those kind of people backing you up and basic takes care of that.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

 We lost about 10 during basic training. One guy peed in bed so that he got out on psychological issues. I didn't need him by my side during Desert Storm.

The Marines basic training was even harder at the time I enlisted. I ended up as a 19K10 - a tank crew member. I learned the M-60 tank then moved on to the M1A1 Abrahams which I also used in Desert Storm

Amen and well said. Basic is everything you said and used to weed out the unfit. As a former line commander you are dead on balls right.

It's impossible to teach anyone anything without brutalizing them and and shouting and demeaning people and damaging them at least emotionally and often physically

That's why we maintain an army isn't it ? Anyone who wont acknowledge our superiority is covered in phosphorus or

blasted limb from limb.

That's our Foreign Policy after all

If there was a better way of teaching people, the pentagon would have devised other methods by now
