Hello Everyone :-

It's been long road so far for me with all the immigration proccess , my wife "married since 6 years" filed the I-130 back in 2010 and due to "delaying of process" from our side i guess it took too long , we both live and work in Dubai-UAE , we have just received an e-mail from NVC asking me to fill the immigration form DS-230 (APPLICATION FOR IMMIGRANT VISA) along with some civil documents needed and i guess this is the step before the interview and getting the immigration visa !! my questions is :-

1- After getting the immigration visa and landed in the state , can i leave back to Dubai-UAE , as we don't wanna move to the state (our work here is much better ) or do i have to stay for some time in the state !!

2- is this related by anyhow to getting the American citizin ship ( passport ) or do i have to live in the state to be able to have those.

3- how long it usually takes to be able to hold the american passport after making the first immigrant landing ??

yeah i know am still new at this and sometimes it really confused me.

hope i will find my answers here.

Thanks alot all.

You have 6 months validity of the visa in the passport. But it is no good if the medical expires.

If UAE is good for you both then stay there. Jobs and life is hard in USA

To become a BLUE passport holder you have to stay a resident in USA for 3 years after entering and staying married to her. You can leave for up to 6 months without any issues. Some leave for a year if they get approval.

But to become a citizen has some stipulations about maintaining residency in usa

I do not think the USA is right for you right now.

You can stay at NVC stage for up to a year if you keep calling NVC every month and telling them you still want the visa but you need to delay this step for awhile.

Good Luck

May 24, 2011 NOA1

Sept 11, 2011 NOA2-took 19 days to get case number

Sept 30, 2011 NVC number and IIN received Friday-gotta wait till Monday

Oct 13, 2011 Case Completed- 13 days from receiving case number Took 32 days from NOA2

Nov 30, 2011 Notified of Interview date

January 19, 2012 Interview- 240 days from NOA1

INTERVIEW RESULTS-APPROVED WITH 14 WEEKS AP--but he got his visa in 56 days!!!!!!

PLEASE EDIT YOUR TIMELINE IN YOUR PROFILE SO OTHERS CAN LEARN HOW LONG EACH STEP TAKES IN THIS PROCESS

Hey , thanks alot for the your help , but let me be sure i got it right , so if i got the immigration visa i have to leave to the state for good ?? we don't think AT ALL to go and live in the state anytime soon , we are married since +6 years now and we have 4 years old daughter and we are looking to stay in UAE .

i know that i have to utilize the visa within 6 months of issuing plus the medical expiry is important , but dose that mean that i have to go for good or i can just go stay for a week and come back again to UAE and the other process will go through with time such as the passport. !!

sorry but i really need to clarify this step so i know what to do.

Thanks again and congrats for your freedom brother.

An immigrant visa is for immigrants. It results in you becoming a legal PERMANENT RESIDENT of the USA. You will be expected to spend more time inside than outside the USA. If you are not ready to move, delay the process or withdraw the petition and file again when you are ready to move.

The other members are correct, but I wanted to add that you can apply for a travel permit which will, after approved, give you the ability to be out of country for up to a year. My understanding is that you can apply for the travel permit after you arrive in the States but you don't have to wait around for the approval. After you have applied, you can go. My assumption is that these travel permits are rarely if ever denied, but I would be appreciative to anyone who may correct me on that.

Best of luck!
