Went to my local SSN office in person and applied for an updated Social Security Card on June 19 after my GC was approved. Also took my GC with me and filled out an application and handed over my earlier card which had the 'DHS authorization required' stamp on it.

The lady who took it all in said I would be getting my new card in the mail in about two weeks.

Called again today since the two weeks was up and was told that it is going to take longer to process and that the normal time for this in my case would be about 30 days, which makes it July 19.

What's up with this? Anyone has any idea? Is this normal? My earlier card arrived within a week, why is this one taking so long?

The Journey

Wish I had an answer for you! What did they give the reason for the delay as when you called them?

I received my updated SS card in the mail on the 5th day, just like my original one. It seems strange that there s a delay the 2nd time around-- I am sure someone who is more knowledgable about the SSA will be a long shortly.

Thanks, Chris, am sure it is quite okay. They just said they needed more time. I think as immig? said in her comment below yours, maybe they need time to verify stuff with USCIS. I do not need the new card with any urgency, was just curious to know why it is taking so long.

I guess it is not :innocent:

Ah, that explains. :bonk: Let them take their own sweet time, LOL!
