Yes they sell safe bottled water there but I take one because there are times ,such as at the compound in the village, where I am away from sellers and the empty filer bottle is lighter than carrying a full bottles with me. I can fill it up with local water and be good to go. Another trick I use is to WU money to myself and then if I need emergency cash I can get it there, if not then I can cancel the transaction when I get home.

Wait, so you drink just filtered water or do you boil it first?

Wait, so you drink just filtered water or do you boil it first?

I am using the same filters that I would be using in any other clean water impaired environment, no need to boil, no nasty tasting tablets. If size and weight is a consideration you could use the Seychelle straws although you may need several replacement filter for those for your trip. I happen to prefer the bottle format.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I hear the consulate in Atlanta is way faster in processing than DC wheer I went. But all he mentioned is what I did. You can write the letter your self with whoever is inviting you in letter. have fun.

I did not know that there was a travel system in Atlanta, that you could get a visa from. I have always used Washington. I just applied for my visa to leave on the 27th of July and i got it back in 5 business days. Does Atlanta work faster than that? Oh and also i did not know that,.. because I am married to a Nigerian I was automatically given a 2 year multiple visa, I dont even know how i got it but when I opened my passport the visa read 24 months. so now if I go to visit my husband or travel with him to Nigeria i dont have to worry about getting a visa stamp. Kudols to me. God is great!

I have been there twice and I have never had a problem with the water.

Unless things have changed in the past year, I did not need a letter of invitation to get a Visa to Nigeria. If you can show a hotel reservation, I believe that will also be accepted. When I applied for the visa, I just sent my flight itinerary and hotel reservation. But if you can get the letter of invitation, you might as well go that route. A travel clinic is your best bet for getting the yellow fever immunization and they will also give you additional ones based on the area you are going (or boosters). Safe journey !!

I just got my Visa to go in the mail 2 days ago , I needed invitation letter, flight intinerary, and my husband bio page from his passport. You are right that if you are going to sponsor yourself then you dont need an invitation letter. I was always going to visit my husband so he wrote a letter reassuring the Consulate that i would be taken care of. Tourist do not need an invitation letter, only visitors to visit family or friends. But tuorist do need hotel reservation and copy of bank statement as proof of financial stability.

What water did you drink?

Bottled, pre treated, straight from the tap? Just curious.

I was thheer last year for 6 months. No pre nothing just tap water. Loved putting it in freezer getting those ice chunks (when we had power). Started off with bottled water but that was getting expensive andd I was filling very Nigerian within about 2 months. No issues what so ever.

We didn't have tap water , it was being hauled up from an open shared well. I know better from camping than to trust just because it looks clean , you may not see the decomposing deer floating upstream from you.

You can drink the water straight from the tap. It taste just like ours.

I always thought the water from tap (unless coming from a well) was unsafe to drink? Olami was the tap water you drank from a well? Just curious...

No the one I drank was right out of the kitchen sink but when we visited the village they gave me water from a pump and it tasted just like it came from the tap. Trust me its safe to drink. And the water from the pump is already cold.

OMG It sounds like you are all alone when you went there. Was it really that hard for you, that you had to WU to your self, and carry around filters and bottled water? Who were you there visiting? They should have taken better care of you than that. Shame on him.

No I tend to be an over preparer. My husband has 21 siblings. With my extra money safely in WU's hands he could homestly tell them "she only brought XXX" when they had their never ending requests for computers and phones and clothes. it isn't like I was lugging a huge thing for my water, it looks just like a regular hip bottle with a funny filter in the middle. I also carried supplies so that in lack of a western toilet I could manage because I am not a good squatter. ( google gogirl)

Wow! He has a huge family. When I visit my husband its just He and I, and we visit the family in the village. Friends come over to see me, but they never ask me for anything cos my husband is not having it. Lol. They think that cos you are American that you are rich. They really dont know any better. Your husband should explain that to them.
