I almost made a terrible mistake!

While visiting my son’s financial aid office today, the Financial Officer pointed out that I did not have the correct transcript! In my rush to get the transcripts sent to me…I ordered the WRONG DOCUMENTS! I’ve had the paperwork for two months and my AOS (I-864) completed. Now I’m at the NVC stage waiting on a case number and invoice number with the incorrect documentation.

I'm very thankful God allowed someone to point this out to me BEFORE I sent the incorrect records off! I wanted to share this with everyone so you too can ward off any delays by double checking your documentation now! If you have the incorrect transcript, follow the "detailed" instruciton below to get the correct transcript. God bless your journey! ~Dana

IRS Income Tax Transcript Request Process

Tax filers can request up to 10 transcripts, free of charge, from the IRS.

Online Request

    • Available on the IRS Web site at www.irs.gov
    • • In the Online Services section of the homepage click “Order a Tax Return or Account Transcript
    • • Click “Order a Transcript” under “Go Get Your Transcript”
    • • Enter the tax filer’s Social Security Number, date of birth, street address and zip or postal code. Use the address currently on file with the IRS. Generally this will be the address that was listed on the latest tax return filed. However, if an address change has been completed through the US Postal Service, the IRS may have the updated address on file.
    • • Click “Continue”
    • • In the Type of Transcript field, select “Return Transcript” and the Tax Year field, select “the first of the last three years, now “2009”.
    • • To process another year, “2010”, click “Request a different transcript”, when your process is complete select to “Exit” to get out of the system.
    • • Within 5 to 10 days your request will be mailed to the address included on your request.
    • • IRS TAX RETURN TRANSCRIPTS requested online cannot be sent directly to a third part by the IRS.

Telephone Request

    • • Available from the IRS by calling 1.800.908.9946
    • • Tax filers must follow prompts to enter
    • o 1 for English Language, 2 for Spanish Language
    • o Social Security Number
    • o Street address, “ex: 12345” of My Road USA
    • • When prompted select “OPTION 2” to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript and then enter the first year you are requesting.
    • • Listen carefully through the remainder of the prompts to request additional years.
    • • Simply hang up when you have completed your requests!

Yes. And it is not so confusing online or on the phone if you know what you need! That could have been an RFE. Trying to ward off any and all of those!

Good looking out there. good.gifThose transcripts come really quick great service. Just filed 2009 so I await to ask for the transcripts. My 2011 transcripts came today with me and my husbands name on it as filing jointly (even though I know I filed married filing separate since I had no ITN or SS#). Oh well It was so surreal seeing our two names on there all like that.dancin5hr.gif
