Hi everyone,

Just checking to see if you guys think I have enough evidence before I send my AOS packet later this week.

We have:

2 affidavits from his mother and father

Marriage certificate

Form he filled out at work requesting that I be added to his life/health insurance

I could also print out some pictures from our courthouse ceremony and backyard reception to include if that would help?

I'm just starting to freak out about if I have enough documentation of the actual relationship.

USCIS understands newlyweds don't have a lot of evidence. By the time you have your interview, you will have accumulated more to show. What you have is fine for now. Moreover, you can't send what you don't have, so there is nothing that can be done about it.

I can't be added to the lease as it's almost up and there are other roommates here. We're in the middle of buying a house, but I can't go on the mortgage because I have no credit rating in the US. Can I even get a joint bank account with him without a SSN?

There are banks that will allow you to have a joint account with him, even without an SSN. But you have to shop around. You can search on this site too, because it's a question that comes up a lot and people will say where they got an account with no SSN.

If he has credit cards, he can also ask that you be added as an authorized user. You don't need a SSN for that.

Some people say send pictures now, others say bring them to the interview. I don't think it's going to screw up your approval one way or the other.

Anyway, I wouldn't delay your filing to gather joint accounts, etc. Just send what you have and spend the next couple months gathering other stuff.

Good Luck!

Thanks for this, I feel a little better now. This is what my husband has been saying, and I'm probably just overthinking it like always.

Guess it's time to get everything together and get that application sent out this week!

Hi everyone,

Just checking to see if you guys think I have enough evidence before I send my AOS packet later this week.

Marriage certificate

Relax. We sent in our marriage certificate, a couple of photos of the wedding and health and life insurance with her listed on them and that was about it. We got married 8 days after she arrived, but filed two months later due to my Mother passing away. We took the car title, income tax return, and a joint bank account to the interview in May which was 5 months after we were married. Never looked at it. Only asked us questions that were on the I-485 form. The only thing I would recommend is to take another certified copy of your marriage certificate to the interview as our IO kept it--if you have an interview.

Just remember to keep adding to the file for ROC of a joint bank account when you get your SSN, joint tax returns, employment benefits with you listed as a beneficiary, car titles, investments, if you draw up a will or power of attorney, airline tickets of vacations together, things like that. They will want a bit more for ROC, but again I think they realize that even two years is a short time frame.

Good luck,

Dave

To the poster I would advice that you send something showing that you both live together even though you are newly weds. This is USCIS we are talking about, you don't want to rush yourself into sending off your packet and risking giving them the opportunity to prolong your case by sending you RFE's, trust me.

So if you can't get on the lease, you might wanna get the owner/landlord/roommates you guys live with to write a sworn affidavit explaining the living situation and why you can't get the lease. That way you have covered that. I have seen one too many cases that they(USCIS) send RFE's just cause of the lease. If you read the filing guide carefully, you'd see that it's one of the evidence listed there for filing.

Just my point of view. You could go ahead and file with all you have also. Good luck!

3/21/2012 (Day 0) - I-130, I-485 and I-765 sent.

3/23/2012 (Day 1) - Delivered to USCIS.

3/27/2012 (Day 5) - E-Notification that paperwork received.

3/28/2012 (Day 6) - One check for $1,490 cashed & cleared for I-130 and I-485.

4/02/2012 (Day 11) - NOA hard copies received (x3), case status available online & bio appt. also received, dated 04/12 @ 8:00 AM.

4/10/2012 (Day 19) - Case status online says changed to RFE received.

4/12/2012 (Day 21) - Successful biometric done.

5/11/2012 (Day 50) - Complete RFE (I-864) received. Case status online changed to RFE received.

5/16/2012 (Day 55) - Online case status says: Card/ Document Production.

5/21/2012 (Day 60) - Online case status says: Card picked up by USPS.

5/24/2012 (Day 63) - EAD card in hand.

6/12/2012 (Day 82) - Testing and Interview.

7/12/2012 (Day 112) - Interview date!

7/12/2012 (Day 112) - Approved.
