Anyone else disappointed to get a Montreal Case Number ?

I know, being from South Western Ontario that I'd more than likely be given a Montreal Case Number. But I did however put Vancouver down on my forms, hoping to get Vancouver. You see my fiance is from Seattle area, and it would have been so nice to have him at the interview. Any one else request Vancouver, and sad to discover they can't interview there? Also, I've heard that the wait times to get an interview are longer and the processing after to received the Visa tends to drag on. Is it really, truly that much more drawn out than a Vancouver appointment?

Regards,

Sad to say you'll be interviewing in Montreal - they won't just switch you because you'd prefer it or it's convenient for your fiancé. You have no real reason (ie - you're moving to Vancouver during the K1 process for example) other then you want the process to hurry up! Everyone here would dearly have loved for things to move faster but your life is in US immigration's hands for about the next 5 yrs.

They'll correct your embassy to be Montreal.

Welcome to Montreal ! Please try the poutine tour, after the interview.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Yeah, my fiancee lives in Vancouver and they are still sending everything through Montreal. Bummer!

1/7/12 - I-129F Sent to Dallas Lockbox

1/10/12 - Package delivered!

1/12/12 - Notice that package is being forwarded to Vermont Service Center

1/17/12 - NOA1 received!! Notice Date 01/11/2012

6/13/12 - NOA2 APPROVED! 5-months to the date of them receiving it.

6/21/12 - NVC Received (I think, I called on 22 early morning and it had an NVC case number already). Assigned an Abu Dhabi case number. Asked NVC what I needed to do to change consulates and followed the procedures exactly as they told me.

6/29/12 - NVC sent our case to the wrong consulate even though I followed every procedure to notify them of change-of-address

6/29/12 - Emailed both Abu Dhabi and Montreal to request transfer to the correct consulate (Montreal)

7/16/12 - Frustrated by no reply from Montreal, I contacted my local congressman asking for help

7/18/12 - Phone call from rep of the congressman offering me help, very nice people!

7/24/12 - Thanks to local congressman's help, Montreal officially requesting case from Abu Dhabi (one month delay but at least we're back on track)

8/06/12 - Abu Dhabi officially received request from Montreal

8/22/12 - Received Packet 3 email from Montreal. Started gathering final documents

9/14/12 - Received e-mail from Montreal to hold on to our Packet 3 because our case is being forward to Vancouver (GRRR!!!! MORE TIME! But lucky because we were sending packet 3 papers THAT NEXT DAY)

9/27/12 - Received packet 3 letter from Vancouver.

11/5/12 - Medical Interview (everything's ok, thank god)

11/20/12 - Interview appt at Vancouver Consulate - APPROVED!!!!!! THANK YOU GOD!

Western Canada goes to Vancouver, Eastern Canada goes to Montreal.

Yeppers, line is drawn in Manitoba. and of course all cr-1//ir-1 goto MTL

Sometimes they get the wrong consulate----and u can email and request it goto the proper one.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks for answering my question. :) Also, what happens when you get scheduled for an interview? Does the Consulate assign a day or do you get to pick a date (from a range)? Are interviews on weekdays only? I appreciate any feedback that anyone can offer me.

When you recieve packet 4 (I recieved mine via email) you can then go online on the CSC site and book your interview. You see a calendar and a few highlighted days for each month and those are open dates for interviews. They'll also tell you on the site how many days until the next available appointment. Mine was only 17 days! 99% sure they never schedule interviews on weekends.

Good luck!!

Interviews are only scheduled monday-friday and the embassy is closed on BOTH canadian and american holidays. Usually interviews for immigrant visas (for all intents and purposes the K1 is generally treated as an immigrant visa) are in the morning.

Hi everyone! My fiance just received the NOA2 in the mail, but it says that my consulate is Calgary (I live in Calgary). I'm confused because I thought that the interviews are only held in Montreal and Vancouver.

Here is what the first paragraph says:

"The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate. Please contact the consulate with any questions about visa issuance, or if you would now like them to forward the petition to a different consulate. The petitioner can also file form I-824, Application for Action on an Approved Application or Petition, to request that we notify another consulate of the petition approval for visa processing purposes. THIS FORM IS NOT A VISA AND MAY NOT BE USED IN PLACE OF A VISA."

Are they offering interviews now in Calgary or will I need to change the consulate? Am I on Step #5 in the K1 Flowchart? Is Calgary my Service Centre and I need to tell them to forward it to NVC?

I'm so confused. Pleas help!! :)

They will route you to the correct one, which in your case is Vancouver. No action on your part needed, it will go to the correct consulate. While there may be one in Calgary, they don't handle K1s

Thanks for your help! When I called the Calgary consulate today, they weren't much help at all. I was told that they mainly do non-immigrant visas, but they sometimes make exceptions and will do immigrant interviews. I asked what that meant for me and was told that nothing could happen until they hear from the NVC and that I can't change my consulate. I then searched through the forums and found a number for visas and when I called them, the woman told me that it would probably be directed to Vancouver. It's good to know that the NVC will send it automatically to Vancouver. :)

And if they screw up and send it to MTL, you can email them and vancouver...and get it switched to VAN, if you choose to(van is usually much faster!)

Maybe MTL got things cleaned up, because I had my CR1 interview for 5 weeks after I sent in my AoS. Found it very fast, so far, including turn-around on documents (they gave me an RFE, and turn-around on that was 3 days.) Gotta love electronic document submission too. WAY faster.
