Hi, I've just begun the process of putting together my petition and I have found the site and forum super useful. I tried to find the answer by searching the forum but I couldn't locate one specific to my needs. I may not have looked hard enough so please forgive me. My fiance has a Latin style name with four names. It goes First Name - Middle Name - Mother's Surname - Father's Surname. Now I have already encountered the answer to putting his name on forms without his mother's surname and notating that in the cover letter. But my other issue is that he goes by Middle Name - Father's Surname. This is how he is known to people and how he signs documents.

My question is should I have him for the sake of legality sign the documents with his full name or also notate that he goes by only his middle and surname and will be signing the documents in that fashion?

Use his full name. The name that appears on his birth certificate. If you don't have enough room in the space provided on the forms then attach a blank page and write out his full name.

There is a spot on the form that asks if he is known by another name. You could put the shortened version there.

Your signature is your signature. You can write that anyway you want. On all my documents I write the first letter of my name then the last 3 letters of my last name. It's that way on my drivers license and all immigration forms. Never had any problems. But when it's written/typed you have to use the full legal name. So when it has on the petition "print name" you need to write it as it is on the birth certificate and other legal documents.
