Hello,

On form OF-169, is there a fillable version of it?

I searched Google and could not find one.

On this form it asks for the "Current address in Chinese characters (if applicable)"

But the form cannot be filled on a computer, so no copy and paste.

So I have to be able to hand write Mandarin Chinese characters onto a printed copy of this form?

If so then that is the beaurocrats saying, "We need you to do this but for 99% of you it will be impossible; have fun" :bonk:

Any info or advice?

its an old version of-169 it's to say your ready with papers and ready for the interview, now the consulate use DS-2001 OR DS-2100 that replaces 0F-169

Hi jkelly07,

Thanks so much for the reply.

OMG! Are you serious?

So I was about to submit the wrong form?

I now scrap form OF-169 and instead submit either form DS-2001 or form DS-2100 (based on which form I prefer to use)?

Ok so you two are talking about two different consulates. GUZ IV still uses OF-169 and it's not for the petitioner to fill out but rather the beneficiary who should be able to fill in the Chinese characters.

Now is not the time to stop following the guides.

Your Fiancee will get a hard copy of OF-169 when she gets her packet 3, along with form DS230, which also has a part that should be filled in with Native Chinese. She will need to return both of these forms, along with a copy of the Bio part of her Passport (photo page). Everything else she bings to the interview.

Even if you fill in the forms for her, and then mail them to her for her to send them in to GUZ, she will still have to sign them both first, so at that time she could print in the Chinese part.

I am finally getting into the same phase as you with my K1. Best Regards

Hi Operator,

Yes, I figured that out last night. I went to their site and saw that Guangzhou is still using the same OF-169 in their Packet 3.

Then I realized this is a great forum, I would be lost without it, but you have to look out for the advice from old timers who got their Visa approved in 1969 and pass on outdated advice.

Not a problem, well-meaning advice that is inaccurate is okay as long as we be sure to check it out first before acting on it.

Thanks for your reply,

Thanks for your input bigdog,

Thanks for the info stevo222,

My fiancee moved and even though my attorney said she gave them her new address (after getting back from her vacation and after they sent out packet 3 to my fiancees old address), I don't trust whatever my attorney says or does, so I'm filling out and sending the packet 3 forms to my fiancee to sign and submit.

And that's a great point, she could hand write the Mandran part when she signs the forms. Just need to be sure she remembers to do so. Yellow highlighter maybe.

Or would yellow highlighting make the form null and void and get me barred from entering China then I'd have to sneak over the Great Wall in the dark of night?

You can also add text to non-fillable forms with image editing software, such as the free software GIMP - that would be another way around the problem.

http://www.gimp.org/

Still, unless you're doing the packet 3 shortcut what's the point? I think most people just write it in when they get it.

Also, in case you don't know - characters are the same in all Chinese languages - Mandarin, Cantonese, etc. Only their pronunciation is different. Traditional characters are used outside the mainland, and simplified characters are used within the mainland. Based on my understanding anyways.

Hi Larry_and_Xinji,

Thanks so much for the idea and link.

I have Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro, maybe that software will allow me to make one of the form fields fillable?

I appreciate the idea,

Hi Robby999,

Great info, thanks.

I'll try Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro first and if that doesn't work, then I'll definetly try the software you mentioned.

I appreciate the help very much.

Rots of Ruck. A little humor in the maddening scope of things.

Thanks for the wish for good ruck bigdog.

I got my ruck and was able to create form fields using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.

I created a form field for every entry at the bottom of the form (on page 4) except signature.

The trick is not to use the Form Wizard but instead to use the "Add or edit fields..." > "Add new field" > "Text field" commands.

Take care,
