Okay, so we finally got our case number last Friday and my fiance went ahead and booked his medical for July 10th. But now when I called NVC to find out if the case had been sent out or not, they told me it was in AP. Can my fiance still get the medical done if the case isn't at the Consulate by the time of the appointment? Do the medical results get sent straight to the Consulate, and if so, what if they don't have my case, but only the case number? Should we hold off on the medical? I'm really worried about how long this AP will take...

You can get the medical ahead of time. I did for my son. The closer to the exam date the better. But the medical expires after 1 year. So keep that in mind. It might be easier/better to cancel the appointment and schedule a new one later.

The medical report is given to you in a sealed envelope. The Dr should give you a photocopy for your own records. It is important that you DO NOT open the envelope. If you break the seal, it's void. You attach it to your AOS, for more on that read the instructions for AOS found at www.uscis.gov

But in short, yes, you can get the medical in advance and no, the results aren't automatically sent to USCIS.

I am sorry your case is held up. What is AP, why would that happen, and how long might it hold things up for you?

It's odd for a beneficiary from Australia to be placed in AP. Any ideas why?? Was your fiance or his parents born in another country? Has he spent a significant amount of time in the Middle East? Anything like that??

Just my opinion, but if it were me... I would be holding off on the medical for now. AP can take any where from a couple of days to many months. The medical results are only valid for one year. I think - someone with K1 experience correct me if I'm wrong here - but I think the medical still needs to be valid when you do your AOS, otherwise I think it has to be done again with a civil surgeon in the US.

What state is your fiance booked to have the medical? If you only just got the case number and got an appointment that quickly, I would cancel it for now and re-book once you find out what's going on with the AP.

Hope the AP is over quickly

No, there's nothing we can think of that would cause an AP like that (both his parents are Australian born, and no one has been in the Middle East). I'm assuming (after reading some threads) that it was just pulled as an unlucky random one to check. That's just an assumption though. I have no idea, and it really frustrates and depresses me that there's yet ANOTHER delay. :( I could not believe it when I heard that on the phone.

I think we'll just cancel the medical for now. That's cutting it too close, and I have no idea how long AP will be. Plus the medical people were really rude to my fiance on the phone and he doesn't want to have to deal with them if everything isn't in the order they want it. I'm just ready to scream right now.

EDIT: Medical is booked for Sydney, NSW

Sorry that this is happening, especially when there doesn't seem to be any obvious reason for it.

It's hard to know how long it will last because it so rarely happens to Australians. There is one other case of AP for an Australian beneficiary, but that is at the consular level, not the NVC, and that beneficiary was born in Afganistan I believe, and had also lived in Pakistan. They have been waiting about a month so far.

Hopefully it wont be long. If it really is a random pull for AP, then hopefully they will be quick to see that there are no issues and sends the case on its way!!

Please let us know how it goes.

Yeah, I'm trying to stay positive, though I think I'm just drained of all positivity by this point. >_< I'll call later in the week and get an update.

Ok, my case left the NVC yesterday. I was told by one of the operators that the "AP" is something that happens to every case at NVC. Someone else in a different thread said they researched it and usually the AP at NVC only lasts a few days, and it just seems like "normal" processing. I'm glad it was nothing major. Hearing "Your case is in AP" is just a scary moment after reading all of those threads with huge wait times. x_x

Good!! Glad to hear things are back on track!! Not long to go now... if you've got all your other docs ready to go (police check, getting the medical soon etc).. Sydney is pretty quick to schedule interviews :)

Yes, after the medical, we'll have everything ready to go. I'm excited to finally get to the Sydney portion of this journey. USCIS and NVC has been incredibly slow right now. Now I'm hearing that the DHL tracking hasn't had any records since July 3rd, and that maybe they've been on holiday since then. I wouldn't be surprised if my case is still sitting somewhere even though they told me it got sent out on the 5th. Nothing surprises me much anymore with this process. =/

Why did you rebook the medical? If you had the case number that is sufficient for doing the medical.

He didn't have any vaccination records, so he went to his regular doctor who could do the bloodwork/antibody test for free. And then he found he wasn't getting the results back in time for the medical, so he just moved the date a week later to compensate.
