Travel on UK passport after naturalization

My naturalization ceremony is done! No more USCIS! Now I have a passport question. I have applied for a US passport and paid extra for the expedited service. I will be traveling abroad in 3 weeks time. If my US passport does not arrive in time, do you know of any issues with me still traveling on my UK passport in/out of the US?

Don't go until you have a US passport.

You're looked at like a USC, and a USC can't leave the country without a US passport. Doesn't matter what other passports you have.

From what I heard you can leave country with other passport but when you return to US you must return with US Passport. Check with passport agency and they have expidited service and you can get your new passport in 24 hours. You have to show them your ticket with the airline.

Oh #######, I was banking on still using the UK passport. I have paid for expedited and overnight shipping. Was told 2 - 3 weeks which of course is cutting it fine. Not sure what else I can do other than hope for the best. Thanks for confirming that I have a problem though.

You can certainly leave the country but you will not be allowed back in. You can always have someone put it on FedEx, once it is delivered, and send it to you abroad but it is a risky gamble, if your trip is a short one.

I always expedite my passports and the worst I have experienced is that they delivered it on the last day of the anticipated period.

Best luck!

Yes, thanks all. If the passport people are as good as their word I'll be just about OK. If not I will leave on my UK passport and return when my wife has posted the US one ... extended (unpaid) holiday!

My husband just ordered his first US passport at the end of May, also a busy travel season like yours. It came in about 2 1/2 weeks with no expedite or overnight delivery. According to their suggested timeline, it shouldn't even be here yet. They seem to be faster than they say.

They say if you don't have it 7 days before travel to call them.
