According to USCIS, the following is quoted:

Civics Test

There are 100 civics questions on the naturalization test. During your naturalization interview, you will be asked up to 10 questions from the list of 100 questions. You must answer correctly at least six (6) of the 10 questions to pass the civics test.

One is supposed to renounce all other citizenships. Some countries allow dual citizenship - others don't.

Regardless of that, the actual passport is property of the country that issues it - read your passport - I'm sure it will say in there someplace that it belongs to the country of origin. Therefore, no other country is entitled to "take" it.

Does the USA allow dual citizenship?

Does the USA allow dual citizenship?

It's not up to the US...it's up to the country of origin.

Even though you swear allegiance to the US flag , it's not up to them to take your passport away from you.

I'm British...I'll have dual citizenship.

Old and Grumpy....But an American Citizen!!!

I'm not sure if it's that they make you renounce your citizenship as much as they don't recognize dual citizenship.

There is a Chinese couple with 2 young children that run a convenience store downstairs from our apartment. When we got into a discussion with the man about my husband's citizenship interview, he said that he was required to turn his passport in at the oath ceremony. I thought that perhaps he meant that he had to turn his green card in, but he insisted that it was his passport. His citizenship ceremony was 10 years ago.

I haven't heard any other cases of people having to turn their passport in, and I don't recall ever seeing anything about that on the USCIS site. I've also always understood it that the passport is not property of the bearer, but the country that issued it.

My status says now that they scheduled me for the Oath ceremony and sent a notice on October 19th. There was no placed inline status, and I did not get any notification e-mails (yes, I subscribed). So, if you are waiting for any type of notice, make sure to check the status online from time to time and do not rely too much on e-mails and text messages.

My wife's status for her I-130 still shows pending online from 2009.
