Question - where are you guys getting this 'in line for interview' status? The USCIS website jumps from 'Initial Review' to 'Testing and Interview'. TIA.

The status marker goes to 'testing and interview' but the particulars read:

On July 30, 2012, your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling. When scheduling is complete, you will receive a written notice with a time and place for your interview. Please check the website for further updates on your case. If you move, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address.

If your case status indicates that you are currently in this step, you have either been scheduled for an interview or are in line to be scheduled for an interview. The amount of time your application will remain in this step will vary by office and is largely determined by the number of cases ahead of yours. The interview notice will have specifics about time, location and anything you will need to bring to your interview. If your application remains pending beyond our normal processing times (as shown below) please contact our national customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

Please note that not every application/applicant will require an interview. In some instances, an interview is required by regulation and others an interview is requested because USCIS has determined that this is the most efficient means to determine eligibility. For a naturalization application the interview will include your taking the required English and/or Civics tests (unless exempt or waived).

Do I have to cancel the original appointment with USCIS if I did the fingerprint appointment at another ASC office with a walk in?

Thanks for the update, MamaSue. I'm sort of watching your progress - I'm in the June tracker (filed on June 29th) - we're both in ATL. If your case follows the same progression you should see a status change to "In line for interview" in a couple or three days (I did EB on a Thursday, status changed on a Monday). I've been in line for interview since 7/30. Just a couple of weeks so far... but I'm eager to move forward.

When I went for EB on 7/26 at the same almost the same time of day as you, there was barely a soul there, so they took me early and I was in and out in about 15 minutes.

I'd like to vote too - but it's a big IF we get through quickly enough. I see one May filer has an interview on 9/11 scheduled, but a person who applied the day after her, still has no IL (or they haven't updated their tracker).

We're all anxious to get it done! But yes, Atlanta seems to have slowed right down over the summer. I went to an informational seminar put on by a civics group in my area in early June, and they told me that the Atlanta DO was taking around 3 months. I think their information was just a tiny bit out of date.

I keep watching the mailbox -either for a yellow letter or an interview letter, I've read where some folks received an IL without their online case status being changed.

I have to travel for 3 business days in mid to late September and I'm nervous that my interview will be scheduled then - that would be just my luck. It's just to Florida for a trade show, but I'd hate to miss it. I certainly wouldn't try to reschedule the interview!

NO, You can only attempt an early biometrics at the scheduled office.

You donot have to cancel the original appointment in case of an EB. Just don't show up and that will be the end of it.

By the way, I actually did my fingerprint in another ASC location on 8/3. Mine was San Jose, but they didnt allow me to do early walk in. So I went to another location.

rcling26: Its actually a surprise and news to me that one can try Biometrics at a different location than the one assigned. Mabye, it is allowed, or possibly the location that you went to, didn't notice. But as long as USCIS receives your bio, nothing else matters.
