Our file got approved on the 18th of April. Our NOA1 day is April 27th. Approved in 82 days.

Maybe July 18th?

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Hello Everyone,

I am a US citizen filing for my husband in India. WE filed the I130 on 4/25/12. A couple of weeks later I received a letter in the mail stating that the Vermont Service Center received my application and it is in progress. After that I have been checking the status of our case online at the USCIS website, but since the beginning of May it has been saying "initial review." Now reading some of the posts of the fellow April filers, I am noticing that our case is running behind! Can anyone advise as to who or where I can contact someone to get some more information regarding the status of the case? I would really appreciate any feedback or information anyone can share!

Thanks in advance!

Hi jasvinnie, just an fyi most of the April filers are posting at this other April forum:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/375806-april-filers/

As for your question, from what I've read on VJ USCIS will tell you that it take 5 months, which is the USCIS' processing timeframe, and they don't give other information. Again, this only from what I've read not my experience. Unfortunately, you still have a month left for the 5 months. But at the 5 month mark some start the process of contacting their congressman, here's one thread http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/303684-senator-or-congress-person/

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your help! One more question for you. Do you know of any way of reaching an officer or representative at the USCIS? The customer service number they provide only gives an automated update which says the same thing as the website. I wanted to speak to a live person just to have the satisfaction that the case is going smoothly and there are no problems.

Thanks again!

Hello All!

I am a US citizen filing for my husband in India. We got married on 3/11/12 and I got back to the US at the end of March. I filed the I-130 on 4/25/12 and received notification that the Vermont Service Center has received the application and the case is in progress. Since then we have been waiting for the approval and there is no change in the status on the USCIS website. All it says is "initial review." Based off of what I have seen others posting on this forum, it seems that our case is lagging behind. Does anyone know any way I can contact the Vermont Service Center to gain any more updates? I have sent them an email (that was provided on the USCIS website). I called the customer service number as well that is provided, but there was an automated system that said the same thing as the website. Any suggestions as to what I can do? I was hoping the whole process would wind up in 6 months...now it is looking more like 7 :(.

Any information anyone can provide would be greatly helpful!

Thanks :)

Unfortunately, there is nothing you can do to speed things up at the Vermont Service Center. They are taking, on average, 5-7 months to approve I-130 applications. This is why you see "Initial Review" when you log in to check the status of your application. Once you're application gets approved at VSC, it will be sent to the National Visa Center where more paperwork and processing will take place (you have to file an Affidavit of Support Packet as the petitioner and your husband will file an Immigrant Visa Application). The NVC process takes 30-90 days to complete, at which time your case file will be sent to the US Embassy in India where your husband will be scheduled for an interview. Prior to the interview taking place, your husband must also pay for a medical exam that will be submitted to the embassy prior to the interview. Getting an interview date once your case is completed at NVC can take up to 6 weeks. So, there's no way the entire process will be complete in 7 months. That is just the first step in a long journey to bring your spouse to the US. There are a ton of great resources you can read through on this website that will get you fully informed on the procedure. Here are some links:

Some people say they ask the machine to speak to a "Tier 2, Immigration Service Officer". Here is a thread: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/316114-tier-2-agent/

Still waiting for our NOA2. We filed April 2nd at the Vermont Service Center. Fingers crossed for the magic email/text to come in the next few days :)

We are VSC twins! We also filed April 2 at the VSC. The case hasn't been "touched" yet. I check online every few days just in case I miss the text. Its frustrating to wait!
