So, i met my fiance on facebook FROM mutual friends. His best friend in Egypt is best friends with my best friend here in the States. Also my fiance KNOWS my best friends, FRIENDS in EGYPT. When i found all this out from both ends ( my fiance & best friend ) i felt at ease knowing that he wasn't just some stranger lol SO..

Should i show proof of this? Does it stand out as a red flag that we met online? Opinions please! Thanks.

Congrats on your Visa Journey! I wouldn't say its a red flag at all. I met my fiance online 10 years ago. Its really more about the in person interactions than the original "How did you learn who I was" type thing. If you have proof that you have met in person in the last 2 years, you're fine. The more times you can meet each other in person the better obviously but considering you are asking for a visa for someone who is obviously not in the US, its definitely ok. I'd say the stats are probably closer to 60-70% of people met online. It is what it is. But definitely not a "red flag". I mean obviously keep all communications you have online. Facebook posts, chats, Skype logs, texts, emails, phone calls...everything you have. I've even kept parking passes that I have gotten when going to visit my fiance. Anything helps. I'm also planning on going with my fiance to his interview so that the CO knows that we are both serious about this and how much it truly means to us to be able to have a visa and get married.

Good luck though! :) Keep moving forward and thinking positively. I also had to stop reading this website because I would panic anytime someone had something go wrong. Like OMG is that going to happen to me! Each case is different. So keep your chin up! :)

I would say meeting someone online is pretty common these days... I met my DH online. Of course, I knew of the dangers that lurked behind meeting someone online and in another country. In the beginning, I did a lot of "research" on him. He was an active commentator on a variety of sites, and so I went to those to see how he wrote to other people; and how they responded to him. Through these online chat boards, I was able to view messages from years ago and could determine that my DH was a decent and caring man. I also talked to him for hours each night via video chat. I got to know a few of the people here in the states that were with him for a few years- All of these things helped me confirm for myself that he was on the up and up- and then it became important for when we needed to file for his visa to the states. I agree with Wife of Mahmoud- start keeping copies of things to prove you are in a legitimate relationship. It sounds very unromantic, but it is a reality when you apply for a visa. I even kept copies of emails in which my parents wrote and asked about him and all- to show that other people in my life were aware of him and our relationship...

If you are able to write to him (and vise versa) via snail mail, do this as well and keep the stamped envelope and letter. Do everything you can think of to establish a long-distance relationship that the consulate will look upon favorably.

Best Wishes.

Meeting online isn't a red flag in and of itself. Many of us here have met our husbands online. I do agree with WOM that meeting through friends may draw some concern so you'll want to address that aspect of it.

one post removed for personal attack. while a member may not like what advice someone offers, that does not permit one to violate the vj tos.

as the op indicates a desire for this to be in mena, i'll move it to the mena forum.

Relax, a lot of people met online nowadays and have successfully applied for K-1 visa.

No need for proof for meeting online but a lot of proof of meeting physically will help.

good.gifWe are one of them that met online, We got approved then by next week we gonna get married..

As long as you have a bunch of on going genuine relationship to prove...

Goo-luck

These days, meeting online, and even Facebook in particular, shouldn't be a red flat at all! I met my fiance online too, and we never had any problems at all.

You must provide as much proof of your relationship as possible no matter how you met, and for your peace of mind many couples now a days meet online so that should not be an issue. If you have records of conversations (on line) phone bills, pics, plane tickets etc. the more the better. some times at the time of interview they will like to see all this and if lucky they will not even bother to ask you and base your interview outcome marely on the responses and how the officer feels about the relationship and i hope this is your situation. make sure you are well prepared with this evidence of ongoing relationship.

"My husband and I met online in 2007 and got married the following year so by the time of interview we had tones of evidence for them, and plus now a days we have a baby what more evidence than that!

Again, for those who didn't read Post #11 in this thread - meeting online, per se, is not the red flag.

The potential red flag that the consulate may be very suspicious about is how her best friend here in the U.S., along with her friends in Egypt, happened to connect her to a single Egyptian man who is now her fiance. That is the issue that she needs to deal with, with lots of compelling evidence that her relationship is authentic.
